There were twenty- four members and two guests in attendance. The program was a presentation by Tia Douglass, the “Bee Lady” who told us interest-ing things about bees and honey, what plants to grow to encourage bees and to stay away from using pesticides. She is a certified Master Beekeeper and a member of the Crystal Coast Beekeep ers Association. P Heivi Larson, left and Tia Douglass, right discuss bees. During the business meeting, 2^^ Vice President Helvi Larson re ported that there has been vandalism on the traffic island at the corner of Oakleaf and Salter Path Road. Plants have been stolen; a newly reno vated Garden Club sign has also been stolen and there was tampering with the water meter. This has been reported to the police department. Karen Zaenker reported that the bus trip to Wilmington in April was successful. Everybody had a good time and brought home some new plants. Ecology and Conservation chair Shirley Schaeffler had some inter esting information regarding deer that have moved into PKS. Don’t be surprised if you see deer munching on your landscaping. The plant sale at the Tree City Fair held on April 30 on town hall grounds was successful and made $230. Garden Club members donated all the plants. A sign-up sheet was circulated during the meeting for members to indicate their menu choice for the luncheon at which the new officers for the 2011-2012 Garden Club year will be installed. This will take place on June 8 at the Coral Bay Club in Atlantic Beach. Weeding and trash pick-up schedules were handed out for the next month. 18, The Shoreline I June 2011
