Sunsetters Tennis Team Finishes Second

Our senior ladies’ 3.5 Country Club of the Crystal Coast (CCCC) tennis team finished first in league play this spring, thanks
to team efforts including sportsmanship and hard work in season-long practice and team drills. Many thanks to Captain Cyn
thia Barber, pros Chris Baile and Mary Claire Donahue, and devoted cheerleaders.
The Sunsetters traveled the first of June to a smoldering Asheville to compete in state competition. The tenacious team en
dured four doubles matches in three days against teams from all over North Carolina. Seven Sunsetters went undefeated in their
bracket against the top teams from Greenville, Boone, Greensboro and Charlotte. Two of these four victories resulted in a “clean

charities everywhere, its nice to find a
local cause to support. Our town has
done an excellent job in supporting the
Kayak for the Warriors events, provid
ing funds for our wounded warriors,
and recently, I have learned about an
other local organization that is sending
“care packages” to our military who are
in a war zone.
Under the guidance of Vietnam
Special Forces veteran Sam Sanford
and with the support of the local VFW,
WE CARE! puts together packages
of goodies for our troops. The pack
ages are not sent to large military
bases but to commissioned officers or
master sergeants at remote outposts
in Iraq and Afghanistan for distribu
tion. Forty some years ago, Sam was
in one of those remote outposts, so he
