Another Season Completed By Charlie McBriany In the spirit of full disclosure and journalistic integrity, it is important to acknowledge when mistakes are made. Last month’s article, “Ancient Mariners Update,” contained an error. In the third paragraph of that article it was reported that team Sweet Tarts had won the top spot for the initial half of the season. The fact is that team Alley Oops!! was actually the champion of the seasons first half. My apologies are extended to Barbara Fix, Andy Pratt and Paul Pylko, the members of the Alley Oops!!—the actual first-half victors. On Monday, March 24, at the conclusion of the final regular season day of bowling, it became a certainty that there would be a roll-off between first-half winners Alley Oops!! and last-half winners Sweet Tarts. On the following afternoon, the roll-off between these well-matched teams was not decided until the third and final game ended. Bruce Burke, Carolyn Slater and Edna Tart of team Sweet Tarts captured the season championship. The annual bowling banquet was held on Thursday, March 27, at the,Clamdigger. All ten of the teams were well represented and a number of emeritus members of the league also joined the festivities. Stories of past “performances” were shared and the food was enjoyed, as was the abundant supply of adult beverages. As has been typical of these season-ending events, a good time was had by all. The capstone of the evening, for the bowlers at least, was the distribution of prize money in three categories: Individual Achievement, Team Awards and Season Team Winners. The winners were; Individual Achievement • Most Improved Female Bowler—Teddy Wimberly • Most Improved Male Bowler—Buddy Thomas • Womens High Handicap Game—Lois Kacmarcik • Mens High Handicap Game—Bruce Burke • Womens High Scratch Game—Jody Isakson • Men’s High Scratch Game—Larry Kacmarcik • Women’s High Handicap Series—Sue Myers • Men’s High Handicap Series—Kim Myers • Women’s High Scratch Series—Edna Tart • Men’s High Scratch Series—Bob Slater • Women’s High Average—Edna Tart • Men’s High Average—Bob Slater Team Awards • High Handicap Series—Will’s Way: Wayne Brown, Will Dixon and Pam Moran • High Scratch Series—Bobs Balls: Lois Kacmarcik, Ann Simpkins and Bob Slater • High Handicap Game—Alley Oops!!: Barbara Fix, Andy Pratt and Paul Pylko • High Scratch Game—Larry’s Girls: Jodi Isakson, Larry Kacmarcik and Teddy Wimberly Season Team Winners • Fifth Place—The Challengers: Clark Edwards, Tom Martynowski and Sue Myers • Fourth Place—Bobs Balls • Third Place—Will’s Way • Second Place—Alley Oops!! • First Place—Sweet Tarts: Bruce Burke, Carolyn Slater and Edna Tart • Booby Prize (Last Place)—No Idea: Peggy Knecht, Charlie McBriarty and Nick Policastro A new slate of officers was officially announced at the banquet, including President Edna Tart, Vice President Buddy Thomas, Treasurer Bill Knecht and Secretary Sue Myers. Several days after the banquet, the outgoing officers met with the incoming officers to pass the baton. At this session, preliminary plans for the new season were made to enable the league to get an early start on the 2014-15 season since it will mark the Ancient Mariners’ 40th birthday. These plans call for the new season to commence on Monday, September 22, at Mac Daddy’s in Cape Carteret. As usual, the season will consist of two 12- week bowling sessions. Tlie first session will include three holiday breaks— November 24, the Monday prior to Thanksgiving; December 22, the Monday before Christmas; and December 29, the Monday before New Year’s Day. The second session will resume on Monday, January 5, and continue through Monday, March 22. If a roll-off is necessary, it will be held on Tuesday, March 23, and the banquet is expected to be held later that same week. Since the upcoming bowling season will mark a 40-year milestone, it is anticipated that efforts will be made to recruit new members to become involved in this wintertime activity. As these efforts unfold, they will be disclosed in upcoming editions of The Shoreline. Keep a sharp lookout and be ready to join the fun and games of this celebratory year. * rnum MM Setyice expertise you can take comfort in Turn toivour expert Carrier.dealerJodav re^ir, maintenance & installation needs Turn to the Experts A DIVISION OF CARTERETHEATING & COOLING INC. 252-247-5900 DuoCraft Senmg Southeastern North Carolina for more than 20 years www.duocraft.com OUR SERVICES INCLUDE: • On Site Consultations • Product Orientation • Field Measurement & layout • Design Services: - Floor Plans - Elevations - Perspectives • Delivery • Installation Call Now for a FREE Consultation.
