On September 3, current and former Ladies Golf Association (LGA) members had a great time at the LGA Superball 40th Anniversary Golf Tournament and luncheon at the club. The tournament winner was the foursome of Marilyn Smetana who had a chip-in on hole 6, Allie Earlywine, Susan Thomas and Mary Greene. On September 6, over 200 members, guests and former members celebrated the Labor Day weekend at the club’s 40th Anniversary Family Fun Day and Cookout. Children and adults of all ages participated in pool contests, various games, races, a putting contest and other fun activities. The club appreciates the participation of members and nonmembers. If you have participated in any of the 40th anniversary events, thank you. Any nonmembers who have participated in any of the anniversary golf and tennis tournaments, bridge party or other anniversary events are invited, along with all members and their guests, to attend the club’s 40th Anniversary Oyster Roast on Halloween (Saturday), October 31. The details are still being worked out, but it is anticipated that the event will be held on the club property at a location other than the clubhouse, with plenty of ghosts and goblins in attendance. If you haven’t participated in any of the club’s 40th Anniversary events, this will be your last chance this year to find out first hand why so many of your friends and neighbors love the club. For more information and to make a reservation for this event, please call the club at 726-1034, ext. 17, or register online at crystalcoastcc.com. The club’s Artist of the Month for October is Kathy Anderson of Seaside Reflections. She and her family live in Pine Knoll Shores and Ocracoke. Kathy has translated her love of the beach and collecting shells into a medium that she shares with others. Her handmade creations of seashells harvested from the ocean are “blinged out” to add color and pop. One of her recent creations, “Surfing Dolphin,” took second place in the “Fish the Ocean for Art” art show 3D category at the Carolina Artist Gallery in Morehead City. Please stop by the club in October to see her shell creations. The mission of the club is to provide exceptional recreational and social experiences to its members and guests. Without hesitation, I can say, “Mission Accomplished” for this 40th anniversary year—all because of the dedication and hard work of the board of directors. General Manager Chip Chamberlin, his managers, the dedicated staff, and the great members of the club and those nonmembers who have participated in the club activities this year. Thank you. The Ladies Golf Association (LGA) of Bogue Banks (now The Country Club of the Crystal Coast) celebrated its 40th anniversary on September 3 with 38 golfers and a total of 55 for lunch. Former members and past presidents were welcomed back, and some of the 40-year history was shared through a poem, golf memorabilia, scrapbooks, directories and a slide show entitled “The Past and Our Present.” Jane Briley won a trivia contest of the LGA history, and Jackie Luckenbill won a putting contest.
