November 3 Is Election Day
Below are brief biographies of the Pine Knoll Shores candidates. One Stop (early)
voting will run from October 22 through October 31, at three locations: the Board of
Elections (BOE) office at 1702 Live Oak Street in Beaufort, Morehead City Parks and
Recreation at 1600 Fisher Street in Morehead City and the Western Park Community
Center at 275 Old Highway 58 in Cedar Point. The hours will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
weekdays (Monday through Friday) and 8 a.m.-l p.m. on just one Saturday, October
31. While the deadline for normal voter registration is October 9, in-person registration
will be allowed during One Stop voting, but voters are asked to keep in mind that it is a
manual process and may take 30-40 minutes. Absentee ballots are allowed, but requests
must be received in the Board of Elections office at the above address by 5 p.m. on
October 27. Completed ballots must be postmarked by November 3 (or dropped off at
the BOE office by 5 p.m. on that day). Visit carteretcountyboe.org to get an absentee
ballot request form or for more information. Photo IDs are not required for this
election. Voting is a privilege and also an obligation of informed citizens.
Ken Jones, Candidate for Mayor

Birth: Traverse City, Michigan
Education: I attended Western Michigan University and have
a Bachelor of Science in Cartography, a Bachelor of Science in
Agribusiness and a Master of Science in Business.
Career History/Occupation: 12-year US Air Force veteran, 19-year small business
owner, financial planner, investor
Political experience: Current president of the Crystal Coast Mayors’ Association,
Carteret County Beach Commission, former Pine Knoll Shores Planning Board
member and chair for two years, served to conclusion on the Governor’s Land
Compatibility Task Force to prepare for a BRAC Commission, three years as NC Senate
appointee to the Eastern Region Economic Development Commission and three terms
(six years) as mayor of Pine Knoll Shores
Civic activities: I have participated in numerous regional- and state-appointed
positions. The past few years I have devoted my time to representing our town to the
county and state in fairness and tax issues. My task, as I see it, is to represent our town
and county to the state and federal governments for the best interest of our town. I have
been on the Carteret County Beach Commission for six years, where we have made
historic gains. I am also active at St. Egbert Church in Morehead City.
Why are you the best candidate? I have six years of experience as your mayor. I have
been in leadership positions for a majority of my life, including 12 years in the US Air
Force. I think the people of Pine Knoll Shores deserve the best, and we have brought
that to your government services. We have assembled a very talented team in every
area of our town, and I want to continue to be a member of that team and provide you
with the best. There is never a time to step back and take your eye off the ball. We are
faced with new challenges all the time (beach nourishment and occupancy tax, sea
turtle critical habitat, recycling methods, water systems and maintenance, acquiring
and keeping the best personnel, state and federal government changes, beach parking,
development, natural disasters and more). I will maintain the character of our beautiful,
yet fragile, town and keep looking ahead to protect our future.
Top priority, if elected: I will work to sustain the path we have been on since my first
term: a lean, purposeful government that carries on the business of our town in a
smart, economical and-planned fashion for our well-deserving citizens.

Robert (Bob) M. Danehy,
■ ’ Candidate for Commissioner
Address: 106 Loblolly Drive, Pine Knoll Shores, NC 28512
Birth/Location: December 22,1938; Camden, New Jersey
Family; Married to Maureen Danehy. We have three grown
children and seven grandchildren. This will be the 20th year we
have lived in town.
Education: Bachelor of Science from Southern Connecticut State University, Master
of Science in administration and supervision from the University of Bridgeport and a
sixth-year graduate certificate in administration from the University of Connecticut
Career History/Occupation: School superintendent, elementary and middle school
principal, grant writer, instructor at Western Connecticut State University, consultant
for a local housing developer and a marine science educator
Political experience: I have served as a Pine Knoll Shores Commissioner since
2003, and I am also the Mayor Pro Tern. Currently my major responsibilities include
the police and fire departments, facilities improvement, liaison to the Community
Appearance Committee and the Age-Friendly Advisory Committee. 1 also recently
worked on the Land Use and Sign Revision committees and served three years as the
representative to East Carolina Council, the town’s regional service center. I support a
conservative approach to government and value people’s opinions about our town.
Civic activities: As a member of the Pine Knoll Homeowners Association (PKA), 1
served as a director and president. I volunteer in the Kayak for the Warriors program,
worked with local leaders to promote effective child development programs, volunteer
in the annual beach cleanup and substitute in the Ancient Mariners bowling league.
I am a member of the Friends of Bogue Banks Library, a patron of the Carteret
Community Theater and belong to several professional organizations. While I was a
member of Bogue Banks Country Club (now The Country Club of the Crystal Coast), I
served as a director and secretary.
Why are you the best candidate? Elections in Pine Knoll Shores are nonpartisan and,
as such, if reelected I would continue to represent all the residents and second-home
owners in town matters. Over the 11 years I have been a commissioner, I have been
an effective fiscal conservative who values people’s opinions. I have worked to keep
taxes at the same level for the last eight years. This year, however, I voted, along with
all the other commissioners, to increase taxes to continue to maintain the state’s “6”
rating for the fire department. Our volunteer fire fighters are now getting older, and this
department needed additional personnel to protect peoples property and keep house
insurance premiums from possibly doubling. Due to my experience in government, I
feel I have the ability and knowledge to continue to effectively represent all people who
have a stake in the town. My experiences and educational background in organization
and supervision are beneficial to town government, and wiU continue to help grow an
effective and efficient work force.
Top priority, if elected; I support effective, efficient and conservative government that
will maintain the character of Pine Knoll Shores, keep it environmentally focused and
grow the town’s tax base.
