Family: Married to Martha Edwards. We have four daughters
and one son.
>' Education: Bachelor of Science and a masters degree from
Springfield College. Additional coursework at the University of
Maine-Orono and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Career History/Occupation: College administration at the University of
Massachusetts from 1968-2003; US Defense Department, 1966-67; teacher in Red
Bank, New Jersey, 1965-66; US Army, 1964-65.
Political experience: I have served as a Pine Knoll Shores Commissioner for two
terms, and served as a Montague, Massachusetts, Selectman for seven terms.
Civic activities: While in Massachusetts, I served with Rotary International for
over 21 years in Turner Falls; and in Montague on the Gill-Montague Regional
School District School Committee for five years and on the Board of Health for two
years. 1 also served, on the Pine Knoll Shores Planning Board for three years, and
sponsored the establishment of the Pine Knoll Shores History Committee as part of
town government.
Why are you the best candidate? I have a broad background and practical
experience in various construction projects, including a variety of road, bridge,
storm water and beach access projects. I am a hands-on type of person and enjoy
following projects through to completion.
Top priority, if elected: To maintain the uniqueness of Pine Knoll Shores on Bogue
Banks by keeping it affordable to live here by trying to maintain our maritime
forests as much as is humanly possible.

Birth: January 29,1937; Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Family: Married to the former Marian Ralph of
McMinnville, Tennessee, with two adult sons, four adult
daughters and 14 grandchildren
Career History/Occupation: I began my career as a grocery
clerk, and eventually managed a large supermarket until I began selling insurance
for Aetna. I spent the rest of my professional life with Aetna, eventually managing
several offices and providing investment annuity programs for schools and
municipalities. I retired as Midwest Regional Manager in 1986.1 believe that it is
important for each of us (and perhaps for a town as well) to review and reinvent
ourselves from time to time. In that spirit, in 2002, after 16 years of retirement, I
earned my North Carolina real estate license and joined my wife’s successful real
estate firm. Pine Knoll Shores Realty.
Political experience: Previously served five years on the Board of Commissioners
for Pine Knoll Shores.
Civic activities: I have served as president of The Country Club of the Crystal
Coast, president of the Beacon’s Reach Master Homeowners Association, president
of the Board of Directors for the Carteret County domestic violence program and
president of the Carteret County Friends of the Aging. I served on the advisory
board of the Leon Mann Enrichment Center and on the Vestry of St. Francis by
the Sea, including a term as Senior Warden. I am a Friend of the Library and have
served three years as race timer for Kayak for the Warriors.
Why are you the best candidate? I have lived in Pine Knoll Shores for 29 years, and
have always been involved in many aspects of our community. I have knowledge
and experience that will allow me to support practical progress for the entire town.
I have no personal agenda and will work hard to support the wishes of the people.
I am honest and will always tell you my position on any issue, even if it does not' '
agree with yours. I am open minded and focused, but willing to learn and will
admit when I am wrong.
Top priority, if elected: To secure funding and promote the development of paths
from one end of Pine Knoll Shores to the. other along Highway 58.
