Members and guests sat at eight bridge tables, each table done up in elegance with silverware and fine porcelain china. At each table was a serving tray heaped with petit fours, small tea sandwiches, assorted cookies and two-bite filled pastries. A variety of teas were offered as well. Linen and lace tablecloths graced each table and complemented the china. Among the patterns represented were Wild Strawberry and Osborne by Wedgewood, Eversham by Royal Worchester, Rose Spring by Shelly-England, Delarobia by Metlox, Piccard by Savannah and green Depression glass from the 1920s. There were three flower arrangements, arranged at the tea by Jan Corsello, Lana Hathaway and Kathy Blowers, so we all could benefit from their techniques. At the business meeting. President Kay Howe welcomed three guests: JoAnne Ferguson from Virginia, who has purchased a house here, Sheryl Gearhart and Gini Herbst. Ms. Howe also reminded us that in May after the club’s business meeting, members will disperse to work on the five town gardens, followed by a luncheon at Gini Stambaugh’s house. After lengthy discussion, a motion was passed that the club take on the project of installing a Blue Star Memorial in Pine Knoll Shores. Another motion was passed that the club once again sell wreaths at Christmastime as a fundraiser. Because of difficulty watering, a rain barrel will be installed in the town garden at' Mimosa Boulevard. Vice President Karen Zaenker reminded members that the annual installation meeting will be held at the Coral Bay Club on Wednesday, June 8. Nominating Committee Chairman Donna Belanger announced the slate of the upcoming officers: Kay Howe, president; Martha Edwards, 1st vice president; Jean McDanal, 2nd vice president; Susan King, treasurer; Karen Zaenker, corresponding secretary; and Linda Langheld, recording secretary. She advised that the ceremony would include the planting of a pink crape myrtle at the Mimosa Boulevard bridge in honor of recently deceased 32-year member Jean Umbarger. The club meets at town hall every second Wednesday of the month at 9 a.m. for refreshments, followed by the program at 10. Guests and visitors are always welcome to attend.
