Featured artwork. In July, the art gallery at Bogue Banks Library will feature the colorful paintings of Pine Knoll Shores resident Marsha Deane. A southern- born lady raised in Pennsylvania, Ms. Deane attended Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. She rediscovered her art after moving to North Carolina 18 years ago. Retirement has allowed her more time to pursue her love of painting, and she enjoys painting the coastal environment that she sees around her and pets. She is a contemporary realist and strives to paint realism with emotion. She works in watercolor, acrylic and oil. Ms. Deane is a member of Carolina Artists Gallery at 800 Evans Street in Morehead City, where her art is on display. She is a member of the Arts Council of Carteret County, and was an award-winning artist at the Arts from the Heart exhibit in 2011 and 2016 in Morehead City. She is also an active member of Arts for the Hospital. For an encore performance, the display cases will feature handcrafted weathervanes and copper art of Don and Laura Saddlemire of D8cL Weathervanes. The Saddlemires started their business in 2007 when they were struggling to find a unique gift for a family member. Their weathervanes are created to be both beautiful and fully functional pieces of art in the 18th century folk art style. They also create handcrafted ornaments, charms and copper wall art, most of which are created Voting Law Updates for 2016 By Phyllis Makuck The nonpartisan Voter Rights Coalition of Carteret County is continuing its series of articles on the Voting Law in North Carolina and related court cases. Voter Rights Coalition of Carteret County A NonPanisan Organization While absentee balloting and Early Voting were in progress for the June Primary, a three-judge panel approved the newly redrawn U.S. Congressional District map as shown here. This map is to remain in effect through the November election. Appeals over the ruling are, however, expected, and North Carolina legislative districts are already under court review. Neither of these cases is expected to affect the November election when Walter B. Jones and Ernest T. Reeves will compete to represent the 3rd U.S. Congressional District. Also, in an unrelated case, the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court overruled a U.S. District Court and extended both out-of-precinct voting on Election Day and the opportunity to register during Early Voting. These extensions are in effect until the Circuit Court makes its final decision on the North Carolina Voting Law. The expectation is both will be allowed during the November General Election.
