PKS Promotes Two of Its Best
(Continued from page 1)
Sarah joined the Pine Knoll Shoes staff in September 2012, soon after graduating
from UNC Wilmington with a Master of Public Administration in Environmental
Policy and Management. She received her undergraduate degree from East Carolina
University. Sarah was hired as the town’s assistant town clerk, and has worked
in almost every administrative functional area in town hall. She clerks for the
Planning Board, clerked for three years for the Parks and Recreation Committee,
processed water utility bills up to the recent change in water billing, handles
building inspection permit administration, is a Division of Coastal Management
local permit officer, and has backed up the clerk on everything from notary public
services to filling in at commissioner meetings. Sarah is a board member of the NC
Coastal Federation, and has been the town’s lead agent in environmental initiatives
such as the movement of recycling to Mondays to increase recycling tonnage and
the sale of recycling carts at town hall.
I believe the town is fortunate to have these two staff members, and we are
promoting them to fill roles for which the town needs skilled and motivated
employees traits possessed by Scott and Sarah. We have made this change without
adding any personnel: Assistant Town Manager Julie Anderson has made secondary
job assignments so that the everyday tasks of working at town hall will be covered.

Annual Summer Party at the Beaufort Historic Site
The Beaufort Historic Site is the place to be on Saturday, July 9, 7-11 p.m., for the
Beaufort Historical Associations annual Summer Party. Started as a celebration of
Beaufort s 300th anniversary in 2009, it has quickly become a tradition and a great
way to celebrate the seafaring community of Beaufort. Everyone is invited to join the
party for great food, a full bar and live music.
Beaufort Grocery Company will provide the food with a menu inspired by the sea,
while a full bar is available as well as a special signature drink to welcome guests. The
Summer Party will also feature live music by the Raleigh band Punch. The eight-piece
band plays everything from ’70s funk and Motown to today’s Top 40 pop hits.
Complementing the food, drinks and music will be both live and silent
auctions. This years auction will be hosted online; start bidding early online at
beauforthistoricsite.org. Over 100 items will be featured, including tickets to the
Broadway show “Hamilton,” a sport fishing trip on a 55-foot Jarrett Bay and a
vacation rental of a Front Street home. Bids can be placed through the Beaufort
Historic Sites website prior to the event, and electronic bidding will be available at the
event via personal cell phone or on a bidding device provided at the site.
Tickets are $100 and may be purchased either in advance or the day of the event at
the Beaufort Historic Site Welcome Center at 130 Turner Street in Beaufort or online
at beauforthistoricsite.org. AH proceeds from ticket sales and auction items benefit
the preservation, restoration and education programs of the Beaufort Historic Site.
