July 5,12, 19, 26; 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. at the NC Maritime Museum at 315 Front Street in Beaufort. Events are held at the Atlantic Beach Circle and feature 1 mile, 5k or 10k runs—and are open to all ages and experience levels. $50 for the series (includes t-shirt) or $7 per race. July 15-16,10 a.m.-4 p.m. Reenactors with the 1st NC Volunteers will present special living history events and programs. A skirmish scenario will take place at 1:30 p.m. each day. In this two- day, hands-on course, students learn techniques of boatbuilding, and by the end of the course will have the knowledge and skill to build on their own. September 2 on the Tryon Palace South Lawn. The festival will feature bluegrass and folk bands, including Steep Canyon Rangers, Sierra Hull, Chatham County Line, Mountain Faith, Balsam Range, Blind Boy Paxon and local New Bern bands Merchant’s Road and Strung Together.
