Hall-Gunter A wedding of unusual interest was performed Tuesday, July 13, in Mar tinsville, Va., when Miss Pauline Gun ter became the bride of Mr. Brant Hall. Miss Pauline Gunter holds a responsible position in the Hosiery Mill as forelady In the Finishing Depart ment where she has been employed for a number of years. Mr. J. Brant Hall, formerly of Henry County, is now em ployed in the ship building yards at Newport News, Va. The young couple enjoyed a motor trip through tlie Val ley of Virginia immediately foUowing their wedding. Stevenson-Tallcy Announcement was recently received of the marriage of the former Miss Re becca Talley to Robert L. Stevenson, Jr. The marriage was performed in Columbus, Ga. Miss Talley will be remembered as a popular member of the high school faculty during the sea son 1940-41, Mr. Stevenson was also a member of the faculty as well as athletic cpach during the season. Accepts Post Announcement has been made that J. S. Morgan, former Danville and Western Railway Agent at Fieldale, has been employed by Marshall Field Company Hosiery Mill, and will as- le his new duties in the office of [Plant August 1. Mr. Morgan will over the duties formerly handled R. Taylor Ingram, who has enlisted the-Vt)C. Personals Lt. Ralph Pickup of Fort Belvoir, Va., recently visited relatives in Fieldale. Mrs. Pickup is continuing her employment in the Hosiery Mill. Mrs. C. D. Looney and daughter, Mable, have returned from Washing ton, D. C., where they spent some time visiting Miss Frances Looney. Miss Looney is employed in the Treasury Department. Lauren Via, formerly employed as a knitter in the Hosiery Mill, has sat isfactorily passed his physical exami nation and has been asked to report to military authorities at Camp Lee, August 3, lor military service, Corp. Doss H. Burch, Jr., of Fort Story, Va., is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Burch, Sr. It is inter esting to note that Mr. Burch, Sr., now employed in the Hosiery Mill, served in the first World War, being a mem ber of the 81st Division, having spent quite some months with the American Expeditionary Forces overseas. James StuRz and Jimmie Hedgecock are visiting relatives in Fieldale. Both young men are now erhployed in Bal timore, TOWEL MILL Plan Boxes For Service Men The Y.W.A. of the Fieldale Baptist church met Tuesday night with Mrs. Ralph Pickup, with fourteen members present. Plans were made for send ing boxes of personal supplies to the boys from the Baptist church who are in the armed forces. Anyone having the addresses of these boys, please send them in Mrs. , Goi'don Warrick, Secretary of the Y.W.A. News From Australia A very interesting letter was received from Ivan Bryant, marked “Somewhere, in Australia.” Ivan Bryant has been in the army since he was inducted October 7, 1941, arid it has been generally known that he has been abroad for several months. Ivan’s letters are always interesting, in that they contain descriptions of the picturesque local conditions of this far away place, sparkling with humor ous incidents which oftimes are per mitted to pass the censor. Ivan was for-merly employed in the Hosiery Mill in the capacity of shipping clerk. He is greatly missed by his many friends, all of which have a great deal of in terest in his welfare. Promotions Mrs., Margaret Nester of the Board ing Room reports that her husband, Louis T. Nester, USN, who is now at tending the Navy Fire Control School located in Newport, R, I., has been pro moted from Apprentice Seaman to . Seaman Second Class. Homer Merriman, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Merriman, has been pro moted from private first class to the ' rank of corporal. American Legion Collects Phonograph Records The members of the local Claude Wells Post No. 168 of the American Legion have been quite active recent ly collecting and soliciting old phono graph records. All types of phono-, graph records have been collected dur ing this national campaign and are being handled through the organization known as Records For Our Fighting Men, Incorporated. This is a non-, profit organization and was organized for such purposes as gathering phono graph records together and disposing of them as scrap.^ The proceeds are to be used to purchase new, records for the benefit of the boys in the armed forces now located throughout the world. On Camping Trip Nine members of the B.Y.P.U. Train ing Union of Fieldale Baptist church are camping at Buffalo Ridge, Va., this week. Rev. and Mrs. J. Landon Mad- dex are in charge of the camping trip. Home From Puerto Rico Mrs. N. M. Dalrymple arrived in Fieldale last week from Puerto Rico, where she has been with her husband, Lt. Dalrymple, for the past seven months. Lt. Dalrymple is with the U. S. Army Air Corps at Borinquen Field, P. R. Mrs. Dalrymple is the former Miss Kathleen Whisenant of Fieldale. Lt. Franklin Transferred Lt. Hilda Franklin of the Third Evac uation Unit, University of Virginia Hospital, is stationed at Dilworth, N. C. Lt. Franklin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Franklin of Fieldale. She received her nurse’s training at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Va., and has been with the army since July 1. Mother Dies Messrs. A. L. Macy, Melvin Macy and Mesdames W. C. Perry and L. W. Hud son, were called to Elkin, N. C., last week on account of the death of their mother, Mrs. W. G. Macy. Mrs. Macy has visited Fieldale on several occa sions and everyone is. grieved to learn of her death. Personals Corporal George Frith, Ft. Story, Va., is visiting his parents for a few days. Lt. Ralph Pickup has recently been transferred from Ft. Belvoir, Va., to Camp Pickett, Blackstone, Va. Miss Elizabeth Joyce has returned from Washington, D. C. She spent about ten days in the Capital City. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Hundley had as their weekend guests, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Early and daughter, Bobbie, of Greensboro, N. C. J. C. Hail, our Cloth Room foreman, sustained an injury to his foot, which occurred July 22, while he was at work. The injured member is improving somewhat, although Mr. Hall is still confined to his home. Mrs. Pauline Stilwell has returned from Chicago, 111., where she visited her husband, Fred Stilwell. Mr. Stilwell, a former employee of Marshall Field, is in the U. S. N., now stationed at Great Lakes, 111. Pvt. Benjamin Minter of Fieldale is now stationed at Fort Dix, N. J. Mr. and Mrs. William Grover Golight- ly are planning to move into an apai-t- ment in the Williams’ residence on Riverside Drive. Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Sanders and son, Gary, have returned from a two weeks’ vacation trip to Mr. Sanders’ home at Hannibal, Missouri. Mrs. Sanders is employed in the Towel Mill Office.
