Page Two THE MILL WHISTLE October 26, 1942 Rayon Mill Mrs. Will Sykes is visiting her sis ter, Mrs. Webster, in .Norfolk, Va. Mrs. J. B. Johnston and daughter, June, visited her sister, Mrs. Walker Goad, in Stuart, Va., last week. Mrs. Marvin Crouch and Mrs. Barney Griggs spent an afternoon last week in Ivlartinsville, shopping. J. G. Halsey spent last week in New York. N. H. McCollum is taking his vaca tion thi^ week. Lt. Jack Bendigo, of Camp Croft, S. C., visited friends in Leaksville-Spray last week. Mrs. Jack Bateman is absent from her work this week due to illness. This will explain the news shortage from this mill this issue. We all wish her a speedy recovery. V . . . — Karastan Mill ^ E. N. Sedell returned from a business trip to Chicago this week. We,regret that D. F. Shirt is moving his family to Philadelphia. Mr. Shirt will retain his position on the design ing staff. J. M. Norman returned last Sunday from a week’s trip to Chicago. Jesse McKinney is on the sick list this week. Nothing serious. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Shropshire (the former Louise Price) and young son , John spent the past weekend in the home of Mrs. Shropshire’s sister, Miss Mary Jane Price. Mr. and Mrs. John T. Mitchell and Miss Esther Moore of Martinsville, were dinner guests in the Hubert Smith home at Fieldale, Va., last Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Kennis Frith visited relatives in Roanoke andr-Rocky Mount the past weekend. James Berry is back at work after being out sick. - Misses Mildred Rickman and Helen Steele attended the annual conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church at Winston-Salem this past Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Turner spent the past Sunday in Fieldale, Va. Mr. and Mrs. William Cox of Ameri- cus, Ga.,.spent the past weekend with his mother near Draper. Mr. and Mrs. Billy Richardson spent the past weekend in Pulaski, Va. The Rug Mill was saddened last week by the death of Mrs. Sarah Donaho. ‘ Those on the sick list from the Bur ling Room are Pauline Stultz, Etta Rich ardson and Una Reynolds. Mrs. Hester Patterson is wearing a smile. She is expecting her son. Bethel, home on furlough this week. Miss Margaret Kelley and friends took in the fair at Greensboro, Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Laymon Hayden are spending the week with Mrs. Ira Pat terson. Mrs. Lottie Hayden and Mrs. Fred Hayden were shoppirjg in Roanoke, Sat urday. Miss Louise Haines was in Greens boro Saturday attending the Fair. Elizabeth Sawyers and Mrs. Velma Causey were shopping in Danville, Va., Saturday. Ada Whitten has returned to work after being on the sick list for some time. Mary Hall, a former weaver, was in Leaksville this weekend. Bill Chambers has accepted a posi tion in Danville, Va. His many friends • wish him luck. Lillie Clark Brown’s father is quite ill, having suffered a stroke, Friday. We wish him a speedy recovery. Dillard Marshall and family spent the weekend with Mrs. Marshall’s sister at ■ Moores Spring. Robert Wilmoth has gone on defense work at Radford. Good luck, Robert. V . . . — Bedspread Mill Mrs. Tom Meeks and son Tommy spent the past weekend with Mm. H. A. Webb, Madison road. , I. B. Abernathy was Sunday guest of Lee Phillips. Mrs. Wayman Smith, Mrs. Gladys Bryant and daughter June spent Sat urday in Danville, Va. We have been wondering why Henry Kirks has been wearing that broad smile this past week. We found out this Monday morning, when he came in and told us he had taken unto him self a wife—the former Miss Jetty Allen. Mr. and Mrs. Kirks will reside on Seymour court. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Tollock spent Sat urday in Greensboro. They attended the Fair , while there. Leonard Fulton, a former employee here, left last week for induction into the Army. John S. Webb, Leroy Crotts, R. L. Wilkins and Oliver Jeffries, all of the Weaving Department, left last week to join the Army. Fiilishing Mill Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Shockley and son visited the former’s mother, Mrs. Lelia Shockley, over the weekend. Mrs. Elsie Hawkins is back at work after being out 12 months. Mrs. Elsie Mae Carter is visiting her brother, Curtis Hensley, in Florida.' He will soon be sent overseas. Cecil Warren visited his mother over the weekend. Doris Barry spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Nina Peters. Joe Motley spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Bertie Motley. Benjamin Meeks, U. S. Navy, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Meeks, over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Davis visited Mrs. Peters over the weekend. Frank and Curtis Minter, sons of Mrs. Cora Minter, left today for the Army Air Corps. Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Hankins spent the weekend in Greensboro. Mr. and Mrs. John Harter and 2 daughters, Ozella and Welda, visited Mr. Harter’s father, S. D. Harter, of Floyd. Sally Carter, Folding Department, is back home from the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Booker Tuggle and son Bobby visited in Stoneville, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Elie. Underwood were called away from home Sunday, Oc tober 11, because of the death of Mr. Underwood’s father of Blacksburg, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Underwood, Mrs. Anna Newman also attended the fun eral. Rev. H. W. Peters had charge of. the funeral service. T. O. Sawyers, Richard Gilley, Mrs. Annie E. Sammons, and Mrs. Cecil Howell had Sunday dinner with Miss Alma Sawyers at her apartment over the Spray bank. Floyd Shelor got his gun. It will be dangerous for his neighbors with him playing Tarzan with his new gun. V . . . — Woolen Mill Mr. and Mrs. Wiseman Terry of Pine street have- moved to their new home on Lincoln street. Mrs. Charlie Shields and daughter, Maryland, visited friends in Philadel phia recently. Misses Ruby, Thelma and Lillie Gray and Oneva Meadows visited Misses Margaret and Anna Rutledge, Sunday, Billy Williams is on the sick list this week. Elvin Lane, of Baltimore, and Miss Ozella Kallam, of this mill, were united in marriage Wednesday, October 14th, at Danville, Va. They will make their home in Baltimore. Good luck, Ozella and Elvin. Junior Pruitt, of Madison, was the overnight guest of Richard Eanes last Friday.
