We are proud of this department,
as it went 100 per cent in the Red
Cross membership drive.
Poor Big Minnie can’t see little Min
nie so often now as she has moved to
Danville, but she has already made
two trips to the city to see her “little
Minnie’’.
Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Stanley were
called to Ferrum, Va., Sunday evening
on account of Mr. Stanley’s father be
ing quite ill with pneumonia. They re
turned home the middle of the week
as Mr. Stanley seemed to be improv
ing.
Mrs. W. C. Vipperman of Draper
spent Saturday in Leaksville with her
sisters. Miss Sanora Parker and Mrs.
Lloyd Thomas.
Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Smothers and
son, Leo, and Miss Frances Goudley
and mother, of Danville, were visiting
relatives in town Thursday. Leo was
leaving for the U. S. Army, Friday.
There has been a rumor of food ra
tioning evidently it’s just a rumor as
Mrs. Gladys Spangler has adopted a
Terrier to feed.
Tommie Woodlief has been visiting
Boxwood on the Axton road again.
Senator Wm. C. Manley has been
promoted to corporal in the local State
Guard company, and John W. Shock-
ley has- been promoted to private first
class.

Finishing^ Mill

Mrs. Minnie Thore and Mrs. Cath
erine Howley and son, Roger, of near
Martinsville, Va., visited in the home
of Lou Emma Poole over the week-end.
Mrs. Bessie Tipton is ill at her home
on Dameron street.
R. F. Robertson, who was sick last
week, has. returned to work.
Mrs. Ollie Gibson was called to Or
lando, Fla., last week due to the death
of her nephew.
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Hill announce
the birth of a daughter on March 6th
at their home on Willow street. Mrs.
Hill is the former Lois Redmon.
Mrs. George Hutson and daughter,
Christine, of Chatham, Va., and Willis
Hutson, also of Chatham, and Mrs. Vir
ginia Hutson and daughter, Peggie Jo,
spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Strader.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Strader have
purchased the house on Early street for
merly owned by Ernest Smith, and
moved in.

Those on the sick list are Otis Kallam,
Inez Fagge, Arline Pratt, D. W. Fulch
er, O. L. French, Samuel Thacker and
Robert Murphy.
Benton Strutton has accepted a posi
tion in the shop.
Tom Young, former employee of the
Spray Cotton Mills, has accepted a po
sition in the Spinning Department.
Andrew F. Nelson and Joseph Pat
terson have accepted positions in the
Finishing Department.
We are proud to have Paul Flinchum
back in the Spinning Department. He
- comes back with us with an honorable
discharge from the U. S. Army.
Emory Wyatt visited relatives in
Danville, recently.
Wonder why the members of the
“Sissy Club’’ are afraid to tell their
wives what course they were taking at
the Woolen Mill.
Wanda Thomas has been appointed
collector for the Credit Union at the
Woolen Mill.
Mae, did you find anything to fit
those steamboats of yours?
The women of the Woolen Mill are
enjoying a nutrition class conducted by
Mrs.- W. B. 'Weaver. This class has
proven very successful and hope that
more ladies will join it soon.
Mr. Betts, we suggest that you chip
a little bit of ice in your bag the next
time you take butter home.
Virginia King has returned to work
after a brief illness.
Mr. Cathy says the early bird gets
the worm. He has already planted his
Victory Garden and has a nice lot of
young chicks. We’ll be seeing you
soon, Henry.
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Martin visited
in Danville, Va., Saturday.

Cpl. Onis D. Turner, Marine, some
where in the South Pacific, writes he is
receiving the Mill’Whistle and enjoys
it more than words can tell. He says
it’-3 just like getting a whole bunch of
letters from home at one time to read
about .all the folks back home he knows.
He says we can change his title from
private to corporal though, and wants
to thank all concerned for the paper,
and be sure it keeps coming his way.

Mrs. Robert Shelton of the Weaving
Department underwent an operation
last week in the Winston-Salem hos
pital. On. Monday of this week, her
son, Bobbie, age 11, underwent an op
eration for appendicitis, in the Leaks
ville hospital. Those visiting Mrs.
Shelton from here Friday were her
husband, Robert Shelton, her sister,
Mrs. Marvin Crouch, and mother, Mrs.
D. W. Kelley. We all wish for Mrs.
Shelton and son, Bobbie, a speedy re
covery.
Mrs. Hazel Hankins has returned to ^
work after being confined to her home
due to illpess.
