TO OUR PEOPLE IN THE ARMED SERVICE . . . GREETINGS FROM YOUR FOREMEN
Nowhere except right here in America can people look forward to celebrating
the Christmas season in the way it hag always been celebrated. Nowhere else on
earth is the spirit of Him for whom we observe Christmas more in evidence, for we
can worship, rejoice, and give thanks.
For this we are indebted to you. You who a short while ago were working side
by side with us. You who have exchanged the hum of machinery for the roar of
cannon; the steady clanking of looms for the whine of bullets. But for your willing
ness to gamble your young lives in the fight for a lasting peace we would not this day
be observing Christmas in the way we have, and always will, observe it.
To each of you we wish to extend greetings. We are solidly behind you and
whatever happens we will not let you down. Our hopes, our prayers, our entire
future is in your capable hands. May this be your last Christmas away from your
home and work.
