Easley, of the U.S. Marine Corps, is spending a 30-day fur lough with relatives in town after being in active service in the Pacific area for 27 months. Miss Louise Shumate was Sunday din ner guest of Miss Lottie Eggleston on the Draper road. Mrs. Maud Wilson of Danville, Va., was visiting relatives and friends here last week. Clifford Emerson, S2/c of Camp Peary, spent the week-end with his family in Leaksville. Since the Cotton Ball, we notice seve ral people in the packing department dragging their feet. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Thomas and little son Lloyd and Miss Sanora Parker were visitors in Fieldale, Va., Sunday after noon. Clyde Martin of the Marines who has been in active service overseas, the Pa cific area, is home for a 30-day furlough, we were all very glad to see him. He called on his friends in the packing de partment and print shop. Mr. Billy Myrick, of Danville Va., was overnight guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Brown, last week. V . . . — Rayon Mill By Ray Warner and Mildred Saunders The most outstanding event of the Rayon Mill was the marriage of Con stance Whitt and James (Shorty) Har rington on May 17. They were united in marriage by Rev. H. W. Peters. The bride wore navy with matching accesso ries. Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Robertson enter tained Sunday the following dinner guests: Mrs. H. L. Dimine and little daughter, Bari, from New York; Petty Officer and Mrs. Otis W. Robertson from Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. H. T. Rob ertson. Leon Shropshire, who has been a pa tient at Duke hospital, has returned home and is getting along fine. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Crouch spent the week-end with Mrs. Charlie Crouch at Ossipee, N. C. Payton Jefferies and Willie Bailey are spending their spare time fishing. The office had a pleasant surprise the other week when our former employee, Marion Slayton, from Palm Springs, Calif., came to see us while she and her husband, Cpl. George Slayton, were here on furlough. Hurry back to see us again, Marion. Virginia Ward spent her vacation at Norfolk last week. Virginia says she had a wonderful trip but refuses to tell us why she forgot to come back to work the following Monday until lunchtime. Lucille Stephens spent the day in Greensboro last Tuesday. We miss Cicero Hall, who is on a va cation but we think Charlie Pulliam is doing a nice job as a pinch hitter. Laura Amos and Ava Highfill are still on the sick list. Here’s hoping you two may soon be back to work. Mr. and Mrs. Will Sykes visited Willie Saunders Sunday. We are still wondering why J. I. John ston goes to Danville, Va., so often. Could it be to learn his ABC’S? Irene Sharpe spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Hayes in North Wilkesboro, N. C. The preparation dept, is glad to have James Moir DeHart back. James spent several months in service overseas. Mrs. Dollie Adams of Danville was the week-end guest of Mr. and Mrs. Hillery Pickrell, Ridgeway Road. Clifford Rorrer is on the sick list at this time. Hurry and get well. Cliff, so we can get out the back door at five o’clock. We welcome Virginia Ferguson and Della Weadon, new employees to our mills. It is good to see Edd Boyd back on the job again. News of our boys with the armed services: We had a letter from Tommie Jenkins telling about the grandstand seat he had to watch the battle of Okinawa. Tom mie, we hope your next grandstand seat will be at the Old Leaksville Ball Park. Leaksville is now second place in the league. Sl/c Howard Hopper recently spent a week-end leave with his wife. Barney J. Warren GM3/c who has re cently been promoted to his present rank is somewhere in the Pacific. Pvt. Giles L. Durham, Aberdeen Prov ing Grounds, Md., spent the week-end with his family. Next time come by to see us, Giles. A wedding of much interest was that of Cpl. Jack Dillon and Virginia Rey nolds of New Hyde Park, N. Y. The cer emony was performed by his chaplain at Fort Banning, Ga., on May 17. Sl/c Bethel Carter of Indianhead, Md., spent a week-end leave with his wife and son, Tommie. Sl/c Arthur Massey of the Naval Air Corps, who has spent 15 months over seas and took part in the D-Day invasion is spending a 30-day leave with his par ents Mr. and Mrs. Edd Massey of Sprayi Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brammer visited their son Sl/c Ira Brammer in Jackson ville, Fla. On Friday, May 25, Miss Florence Stewart of Brooklyn, N. Y., became the bride of Coxswain Coy R. Macy, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Macy of Leaksville. The wedding was solemnized at the par sonage of the First Christian church by Rev. J. E. Vause. A number of relatives and friends were present. Coy is home on a 25 day leave. V . . . — Woolen Mill ' By Annie Crews Our sympathy goes to the Craddock and Huff families in the loss of their grandson and nephew. Pvt. Charles “Junior” Craddock, who was killed in an automobile accident. He was buried Saturday afternoon. Pfc. Druie Harbour, Jr., is home for thirty days after spending fourteen months overseas. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Taylor and Mr. and Mrs. Mack Nelson visited friends in Danville Saturday. We’re glad to have Henrietta Shively with us again. She decided she liked the Woolen Mill better than she did the Cadet Nurse Corps, we think. Lucille Joyce attended a surprise ’ birthday dinner last Sunday for Mrs. Evelyn Troxler, and Mrs. Lula Meeks at the home of Evelyn’s mother, Mrs. Hylton. Cpl. Tommy Terry is at home from overseas. He spent nine months in a German prison camp. Mrs. Mary Orrell and Miss Olivia Cooke visited friends in Greensboro over the week-end. Seems that the 22nd is a lucky day for T/Sgt. Rholie Bailey. He came home from New Dehli, India on the 22nd of December, went back on the 22nd of January and was sent home the 22nd of May. We’re glad to have you back in the states again, Sgt. Mrs. Lula Meeks has received word from the War Dept, that her son, Russell, who was a prisoner of the Germans has been liberated. Mrs. Walter Garnett Smith, the form er Mary Elizabeth Land, had as week end guest, Miss Norma Pender. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Woodall and son, Bobby, visited relatives in Danville, Sunday. We welcome Elnora Hopper, Martha Cheshire, Helen Minter, Myrtle Canady, Russell Clark, Lewis Eanes, John Rie- son and Fletcher Ray to our mill as new ^ employees. We would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Sgt. Johnny Wray, who died in an Army hospital in Miami, Fla. He was a former (Continued on page 3)
