January 7, 1946 THE MILL WHISTLE Seven A partial view of the more than 800 members of the Carolina Council, the Junior Council, and guests, who enjoyed the Christmas banquet at the Leaksville Armory on December 22, 1945. This was one of the largest, most thoroughly enjoyed banquets in the history of the Councils. Showrooms For Karastan Rugs Are Redecorated Buyers attending the 1946 Floor Cov erings show in New York and Chicago are finding the Karastan showrooms enlarged, with new furnishings and decorations in modern style. The showrooms have been enlarged to provide enough space for the effective display and selling of the peacetime lines long planned by Karastan. I Using the display method which stores all over the country have adopt ed in the floor arrangement of Karastan rugs, the showrooms feature wall-drap ing of the rugs, with the different lines grouped in individual bays, lighted with Karastan Rug mills’ special arrange ment that brings out all of the beauty of color in the rugs. In the New York showroom at 295 Fifth avenue, there are now four fea ture displays on the floor and three new shadow-boxes arranged between three of the bays. The furnishings are all modern, pickled oak desks, tables and chairs with upholstery in a soft gray-blue leather. The building columns in the showrooms are modern, too, with their facing of fluted mirrored glass. And the entrance doors are Herculite. The wall colors are soft gray, a neutral tone that gives the colors of the rugs full play. The Chicago showroom in the Mer chandise Mart offers an equally attrac tive, efficient and modern setting. The Karastan showroom in the Western Merchandise Mart in San Francisco, newly designed in recent years, is fresh ly decorated, joining New York and Chicago in presenting three modern sales offices.
