Nellie Minter was visiting in Cascade last night and thought she was in New York and considering making her home there, so says Hilda Smith. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Carter were for tunate to have all their children at home Sunday night for the first time in years. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Stewart are very happy to have with them their daugh ter, Lt. Jessie, for a visit. “Monk” Kirkman, Wes Weadon, “Mussel,” Fred Hall and “Moonlight” Murphy spent the week-end in Waynes boro, Va. “And what a time!” they said. S. C. Laws, who served in the Navy for over three years, has received an honorable discharge as Electrician 1/c. He plans to go in business with his brother in Draper. Good luck, sailor! Whitt was week-end guest of Mrs. P. G. Meeks. Mr. P. G. Meeks is visiting his son, Dan Meeks, in Rockland, Delaware, for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Stegal were Sun day guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Luther, and what do you know: they ate dinner out? What’s the matter, Vir- gie, is walking to work getting you down? We’re glad to have Evelyn Beck back with us. She has been out a couple of weeks. Reason: Husband Randolph has returned home from overseas,oh March 9. I can’t say I blame you, Evelyn. After all, “Long time no see ‘Ran’.” ' Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Beck visited the latter’s sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Hartman, in Wins ton-Salem recently. Mary Ann Robertson visited her mother, Mrs. Jesse Robertson, at Mor- ganton Saturday. Alma (Thomas) Richardson was hon ored Wednesday at. a miscellaneous shower by the Sewing room. Miss Thomas was married on March 4 to Earl Richardson of Mayodan. It seems there were “Nylon hose” in town Friday and being out of woi'k one of our girls went over and stood in line. After about two hours she finally got a pair of “Rayons'’ and discovered when she got home she had lost them. Tough luck, gal. Better luck next time! We’re sorry to have “Mr. Al” out sick and wish lor him a very “speedy recov ery.” Also hate losing our machine fixer, Ethan Pendleton. Good luck to you, Ethan, and hope you’ll soon be able to be back with us. We sure do miss you. That’s all this time, folks. I’ll try to do better next time. Central Warehouse Chatter-box By Leroy Sweeney Packing Dept.: “So this is April Fool’s day—Ha, Ha, Ha!!!!” I won’t look now, because I know that my shoes are untied, I have paint on the back of my shirt, also grease on the seat of my trousers, and also, I just dropped my pocketbook W'ith a hundred bucks in it! So what'?? Here’s what—the one who laughs last, laughs best!!! So here I go—“tee hee!!” And now for a few last minute news- on-the-spot-flashes . . . Mr. and Mrs. Carlis J. Martin spent an enjoyable day last Sunday “window shopping” in Winston-Salem, N. C. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Willard. Say, did you “chillun”^ decide on your Easter outfit yet? Our dept, lost a good man, Tom Pratt,' to the baseball profession a few days ago. We know that you will be in there pitching, Tom. So, the very best pf luck to you, from the entire gang. By the way, folks, our “Esau” sure did get rid of those “mumps” in a hurry! Or weren’t the fish biting just right?? We wonder!! Everyone would like to see our “Jay- dee” with a “scrumptuous” permanent wave for Easter. Pfc. Clarence O. Shipton is spending his furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Shipton. He has just com pleted his “Jump and Glider Training” at Fort Benning, Ga., and will report to Fort Bragg for further duty. The Shiptons spent the week-end in Salisbury, N. C., with relatives. The Central Warehouse as a whole will miss the smiling face of Wilbert Frettle. He passed away Wednesday, March 20th, after a brief illness. Shipping Dept.: Friends and relatives celebrated a very, very happy birthday with Mrs. N. A. MacBride last Sunday. Among those present were Mrs. Dennis Powell, Mrs. Annie Virrello of Chatham, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shellhorse of Roa noke, Va., Mr. and Mrs. Fraker Mac-' Bride of Draper, Mr. and Mrs. Rich mond Hardy of Leaksville. Finishing Mill By Avis Jamerson and Beulah McBride With Beulah McBride remodeling and moving into her new home we haven’t been able to scrap much news. Beulah wants all of you to come to see her in her new home on Moir Street. Mr. Hayden is still in the hospital after his serious accident last week. We hope he will recover rapidly and be back with us soon. Ed Richardson of the Bedspread de partment is a patient in the Leaksville Hospital. So if you are over near the hospital, go in to see Mr. Hayden and Mr. Rich ardson. We are glad to have Maxine Redman back visiting us and hope she will be v/ell enough to be back at work soon. We have missed her. Joe Giles, Jr., of Wilmington, N. C., has recently spent a visit with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Giles, Patrick Street, Leaksville. We have detected an interesting gleam in Pauline Kallam’s eyes lately and we feel sure it is because Bill i Moore has arrived home from the Pa cific and received his discharge. Maybe now that Beulah has got set tled she’ll get more news for you next time.
