April 15, 1946 THE MILL WHISTLE Seven French Textile Industri alists Visit Local Mills Executives of French textile industries, currently touring jiills in this section of the country after their arrival in New Fork several weeks ago, inspected Marshall Field mills Wed nesday, March 27, and left high in their praise of what they law. The group of 10 Frenchmen, members of the Junior Tex- ’tile Executive Association of France, was headed by Jean Delemer, president of the association. They have visited Dan ville and Greensboro textile mills recently and came to this section after a visit to New England mills and textile factories The above picture includes the following members of the French delegation and officials of Marshall Field and Company; Claude Depleix, J. P. Powell, J. H. Lindsay, Pierre Peugnet, Andrew Toulemonde, Jean Delemer, M. P. Miller, H. W. Whit comb, Philippe Rembry, Hubert Laine, Robert Delesalle, J. F. Wilson, Bernard Perain, Francois Richard, J. M. Norman, E. L» Prown, and P. E. Smith. Golf Notes With the advent of this pretty spring weather the boys are regularly out at the Meadow Greens breaking par (in the club room) and helping the care takers cut up the fairways so that new grass can be planted. Several bare spots have been harrowed and grass planted, so the duffers can soon expect to add a few more yards to that slice, or hook. The Tournament Committee is busy planning lots of fun for the coming season. According to Grover Bullin, club pro, there will be three Master Tourna ments this year, the Spring, Summer, and Fall tournaments. These three, of course, will be the greatest attraction but there will be several smaller tour naments, some of which have become annual events at Meadow Greens. To compete in any of the tourna ments it is necessary to determine your handicap—and don’t say you don’t need one! Right now the Handicap Tourna- ^ment is going on and will continue for about a month, until every member has had a chance to turn in his cards. In determining handicaps each mem ber is required to turn in his score card for three games, 18 Jaoles each. The scores will be totalled up and the aver age will determine the member’s han dicap. Be sure and turn in your cards so the committee can give you your handi cap as soon as possible. The Six Billion Dollar Question (From an Advertisement in the “Newsweek” by Warner & Swasey) If communism and socialism are so wonderful (as many people would have you believe) then why do the largest and most experienced communistic country in the world (Russia) and the largest socialistic country in the world (Eng land) have to come to this capitalistic country to borrow money? America is the only major country where people have been able to produce enough for their own wants and have a surplus. The countries with the “more abundant life” want and seem to need that surplus. Doesn’t it look as though this capital ism is something so good we had better keep it? If we think so, we had better act like it, for there are many things going on here that will (and are intend ed to) kill capitalism. And there won’t be any country we can borrow from. Rayon Mill By Mildred Saunders and Ray Warner Mrs. Flora Steagall sends her thanks to all of those who sent her get well cards. She’s hoping to be back with the Weave Room gang in a couple of weeks. Pfc. Webster Paterson, Jr., United States Marine Corps, has returned from the Central Pacific to Camp LeJeune for discharge'. Jay Johnston and family from Hick ory, N. C., visited Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Johnston this past week-end. We hope the following employees who are out sick, may soon be back with us: Myrtle Shropshire, Margaret Sherwood and Mr. A. B. Nevins. Miss Doris Berry has returned to Bridgewater College after undergoing an operation in the Leaksville Hospital. Misses Nina Peters and Audrey 'Vestal of Bridgewater College spent the week with their parents. Mess Sergeant: “You’re not eating your fish. What’s wrong with it?” Buck Private: “Long time, no sea.” A combined radio received and inter office communication system has been developed and will soon be placed on the market?
