We are very glad to have you with us, Douglas. Mrs. Jesse Roberts spent the week end in Greensboro visiting her sister. Miss Isabel Dunivant. Ed Dallas, Roy Wilmoth, and Ed Fuller spent the week-end in Wash ington, D. C. John Willis is on his vacation this week. We miss you very much, John. Welcome to the Finishing Department: Bernice Adams, Ruth Brown, Harlie Hanes, Jack Holt, John Jones, Allen McBride, Roy Moore, Henry Oakley, Hattie Owens, Elmer Roach, and Alice Tiller. Ruth, Kitty, and Rose spent the week end at Myrtle Beach. We see that Ruth got a pretty good tan. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gallimore, and Mr. and Mrs. John Gallimore visited their uncle in Hillsville, Va., over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Pratt and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Evans attended the graduation of their niece at Montreat College last week-end. Grace Joyce gave her husband a sur prise birthday supper Monday night. We’re all wishing for Doris Stultz, who is hospitalized, a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lamar, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Conner were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Martin last week. Well, Bessie Smith is all alone. Seems like another one of her girls got mar ried. Elizabeth was married last Satur day to Ralph Perkins of Reidsville. We are glad to have Ruby Price back with us. She has been out sick for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Price, Mrs. H. J. Pratt, and Mrs. Billie Pratt were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Pratt. The Bleachery By Charlotte Martin Mrs. Eliza Washburn and daughter. Sunshine, visited her sister at Axton, Va., over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Eiwood Eggleston and Elizabeth Meeks.- spent Saturday in Danville, Va., shopping. It seems every where “Woodie” goes they always say “Sorry—no pants.” Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Luther and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Crowder recently visit ed in Kinston, West Va. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Parrish and son. Buddy, of Burlington, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rich ardson and children. One of our girls w'ent down to the airport and watched the planes go up a while, with the intention of learning to fly. After watching them take off a while, she decided she had rather stay on the ground. Can’t say I blame you, Mabel. The folks out on the sick list this week are the following—Maggie Vestal, Ruby Winn, Odessa Taylor, and Thelma Hundley. Hurry back, folks. We miss you lots. We sure were glad to see two of our men folks back after being out for a while. Ethan Pendleton returned to his job as machine fixer. Sure looks good, and Harold Shough, who has been-out with a dislocated bone in his arm.' Also Lottie Grogan, who has been out due to illness of her husband. Sure glad to have you back. It won’t be long now until June 15, will it, Mary Ann? I also hear that wed ding bells are to ring out for Pauline Kellam and Bill Moore sometime this month. Luck to all of you. .June always has pretty brides. Our little girl has changed her song this week from “Give Me a Little Kiss, Will Ya, Huh” to “Laughing on the Outside, Crying on the Inside.” Hm! I wonder what’s happened to her? That’s too sad for me. Another girl is often heard to sing or whistle “The Gypsy.” I think I’ll go see that lady and let her read my future; already know my past. Any of you girls like to join me? Mr. and Mrs. Arthur French of Dan ville, Va., spent Sunday visiting rela tives here and the latter’s mother, Mrs. John A. Martin, on the Stoneville Road. Some more folks were seen at the airport Sunday. Have you lost faith in the ball club, too, “Mr. S.?” And what’s happened to playing golf? Have you decide to take up flying also? Central Warehouse Office Chatter Vs. Jabber By Glennice Jones The Designing Department welcomes Jack Ormand, of King’s Mountain, who has joined the department as Jimmy Lamar’s assistant. Mr. Ormand was with the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot during the war as a civilian in spector of textiles. Fie and Mrs. Ormand have an apartment at the R. D. Shumate home on West Jay Street, Leaksville. Also, the welcome mat is out to Jack Shively, who has returned to work in the Warehouse following service in the Navy. Lessie Chambers has a very good g ocery man. She went to the store yes terday for a loaf of bread and when she got home she had a pair of shoes. She will give the name of the grocery on request. She says that the brown and white spectators were very pretty, but too large, so she had to take them back. Jean Kelley is lii Gastonia this week visiting with her mother who is ill. Iva and Ethan Pendleton stayed last week in the mountains, but she is back with us this week; and Ethan went back to work Monday after several week’s absence. We shaie with them their hap piness! Among those back at work with signs of sun, and swimming, are Ozelle Har ter and Marjorie Perry, who were at Fairystone Park Sunday. What was it at the-Baptist Hospital that attracted Mary Alice Hancock’s at tention over the week-end? It certainly wasn’t a patient! Robert Joyce is installing a furnace at his house. He says that if it is the warm est day in July when he finishes, that he is going to build the hottest fire that the furnace can stand. If you let us know ahead of time, we will be glad to call the Fire Dept, in advance, Robert! Bedspread News We are sorry Callie Burke is having such a swell time. Yes, I said “swell.” She has the mumps. Hope you’ll soon be well, Callie. We miss you. Sallie Gray’s husband is improving rapidly. Hope you will soon be well, Fred. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Axsom were din ner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Berley Pul liam Sunday. Ml'S. Harrison Woods and daughter, Carolyn, were six o’clock dinner guests of her mother, Mrs. Stella Tolbert, the occasion being Mrs. Woods’ birthday. How many candles, Violet? Mary Pulliam has come back to work. Welcome home. Mrs. Violet Meeks and sister-in-law, Geraldine Meeks, are new hands in the V/eave room. Glad to have you, girls. Hope you’ll like us.
