Business w'as unusually good on opening day and continued brisk throughout the W’eek. Tuesday was a good business day de spite the bad weather. On opening day there were occasional rush periods dur ing the morning and a big rush after the 3:40 shift ended. Nylon hose, of course, led in the num ber of sales with towels and small rugs being in next greatest demand. There was no wild buying of nylons, however, and many customers declined their al lotment until a later time. Naturally, this was due to the fact that the hose will be available at any time one choos es to use his allotment. First customer in the store was Lil lian L. Holliman, Sheeting Mill, who made a big purchase. The first sale com pleted was two pair of nylon stockings to James Burgess, Woolen Mill. Sales w'ere made to all types of em ployees, women, men, young and old, white and colored. There were some purchases by employees retired under the Com.pany pension plan. Company officials are pointing out again that employees retired under the Company’s pension plan ARE eligible to purchase merchandise at the store the same as active employees, provided they have applied for their identifica tion cards at an Employment Office. It also was emphasized by Company officials that members of the employee’s family may purchase on his card pro vided they are known to the store man ager or can properly identify them selves. Issuing of the identification cards has been completed at the mills and those who missed applying may secure their card by applying at the Employment Office serving their mill. New employees are eligible to secure a card at the end of three mouths. The store hours are I'epeated below: Mondays through Fridays, 9:15 A. M. until 5:30 P. M. Saturdays, 9:15 A. M. until 1:00 P. M. Know anyone in the black market? Your Rayon reporters sure would like to swindle or even buy a pound of lard and two chickens. The picnic season is on at Fairystone Park. Just noticed a familiar face in the copping room. Welcome back, Dovie.
