Two THE MILL WHISTLE August 19, 1946 Blcachery News Br Charlotte Martin Mr. and Mrs. Bishop Shough and chil dren spent last week at Patrick Springs, Va., visiting Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Shough. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Shough announce the birth of a son, Harold Conway, July 29. The proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shough of the Bleachery. Dewey, don’t shower all of your atten tion on the baby and forget the cows and pigs. Mr. and Mrs. John D. Martin .spent the week-end with the latter’s mother, Mrs. Tom Nichols in Ferrum, Va. Little Billie Martin is an operative patient at Leaksville hospital. Hurry and get well, Billie, we miss you. Mrs. Mabel Shuford’s son, Ernest Shu- ford and wife and children are here spending the week with her. Mr. and Mrs. Willie Smith were shop pers in Danville, Saturday. Nantucket News By Lois Shelton, Guest Columnist Flash! Inez Taylor is walking on the clouds. Cause: One diamond on left hand, third finger. Peg Smith is now doing some new re search. Occasion; At the beach. P. S.— He has his wife with him. Has anyone seen Joe Arnoult’s car? We never thought anyone could have mislaid a Ford of that type, but he has. On the other hand. Jack Rose’s car looks like a springtime fantasy. Color: Pastel Green. Marooned! Three gals. They found out that you not only drink water; you put it in radiators of cars. Gaynell McCollum planned to fly to New York, in a plane of course, but something happened. What? D. C. Williams has worn ruts in the Burlington road and it still gees on. We hear the Highway Department is going to ask him to detour. Lee Self, John Lathem, and Joe Far rell are vacationing. Destinations un announced and unknown. Hazel Carter, the real columnist of this column, who always writes about the color of other girls’ bathing suits, took two with her to Virginia Beach. One to get wet in, maybe? Lib Storm, judging by her smile re cently, likes these new prefab houses. Maybe you could write a column about it sometime. Lib. Hilda Shearon went to the beach last week-end and must have had a marv elous time. It was hard for us to tell, because she certainly didn’t get a sun tan. In the Medical Department Stella Jones is sick, but we understand is con valescing now. Miss Mangum has gone way up yonder to Massachusetts on a vacation. Bettye Jones is at Virginia Beach, and poor Jane Reynolds says she has nubs left for her fingers. It couldn't be the work, could it? Charlie and Pat Litaker visited with home folks last week-end. Notably, Inez Land and Helen Litaker. Spray Wage Bureau won a softball match from Draper Wage Bureau but they couldn’t reveal the score. We also heard they had an excellent picnic at Camp Carolina, but at this writing we have no details. Well, guest columning isn’t so bad. After all, once of anything is a lot of fun, but we’ll sure welcome Hazel back. Rayon Mill By Mildred Saunders and Vircinia Hurd Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Hall celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary at their home Saturday, August 3. Many Jj REPORTER WEDS Miss Virginia Ward, one of our Rayon Mill reporters, was married to Edward Hurd, at the home of Rev. W. J. Gordon on July 19, in the presence of close friends and relatives. The bride was at tired in a white street length dress with matching accessories and a corsage of gardenias. friends and all four of their children were there to help make the occasion a most happy one. Their friends wish them many more happy years together. Well, Mildred Saunders and Hazel Carter are off to Virginia Beach for their vacation. Good baking, girls! And, Hazel, please remind Saunders of her bus schedule. No wonder Carson was all a-glow! Ronald Carson, born August 5th, weight 8 lbs., was the reason. Father and baby are doing nicely. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Carson Slaughter! “An apple a day to keep the Cloth Room healthy,’’ that’s Giles’ motto. Green ones, too?? They “dood it” again. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Shropshire entertained at another steak supper last Saturday. Welcome to Madge Jefferies, Minnie Hall, Lawrence and Bill Burchell. We hope you will enjoy working with us. For some well known reason, Cyril Hudgins spent another week at Virginia Beach. Of course, we would not men tion the reason since it might involve Ray Warner, who was also there over the week-end. Gregory from Washington with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Shropshire. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Smart, Mrs. Marvin Crouch and Patsy in Roanoke. Bob Holt from Lock Haven, Pa., vis ited Miss Mae Webb. Karastan News By Frances Watson Burling Room: Mrs. Fred Hayden gave a surprise birthday dinner Tuesday in honor of Fred and Turner Hayden, at her home on Patterson Street. Betty Ann Tucker had her tonsils re moved at the local hospital Saturday. Setting Dept.: Mrs. Alma O’Brien returned to work August 12 after being out sick for sev eral weeks. We welcome the following new em ployees; Gladys Clifton, Mildred Kapp, Ola Mae Moore, Elizabeth C. Sutliff, Rachel Price, Recie Mae Fh-uitt, Lenora Trent, Juanita Mitchell, Mary Lillie Slaughter, Annie Simms, Wanda Lee Price, Helen Harris, and Elease Mur phy. Finishing and Carving Depts.: We extend our sympathy to Mrs. Callie Tucker in the death of her father, A. W. Foley, who died five weeks after her mother’s death. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Snow of Salis bury visited her sister, Mrs. Jimmie Warf, recently. New employees are; Coy Trent, Grace Ross, Joseph Wilson, and Bessie Hawk ins.
