VOLUME FIVE NUMBER SIXTEEN MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17,1947 Store Profits Used For Employee Benefits General Wage Raise Of 10 Per Cent Is Announced For Mills Minimum Will Be 80 Cents An Hour; Current Union Contract Is Renewed With Slight Modifications Company officials have announced a general 10 per cent pay increase for hourly rated and piece work jobs in Fieldcrest Mills, with a new minimum rate of 80 cents an hour. The wage agreement for the unionized plants was reached by the union negotiating com mittee and Company officers and was ratified by the union membership Sun day, February 16. The Company announced that the same increase would be given workers at the Towel and Hosiery Mills, at Fiel- dale, Va. Effective date of the new pay scale will be set at a later date, according to the announcement. The existing contract between the unionized plants and the Textile Work ers Union of America has been renewed as of March 1 for an additional year with slight modifications. The major addition to the contract was the agreement of the Company to pay all employees who qualify for (Continued on Page Eight) Macon P. Miller, director of industrial and public relations, is shown above, right, as he presented checks totalling $5,577.00 to J. K. McConnel, general secretary of Tri-City Y. M. C. A.’s. The checks represent the Y. M. C. A.’s share of the net profits derived from the operation of the Employees’ Store which, according to the Company’s policy, are to be used for community benefits to employees. In Mr. Miller’s left hand are checks for employee benefits at Fieldale, Va., Zion, 111., and the New York Office, representing their share of the profits based on the proportion of their purchase to total sales. Fieldale Y. M. C. A. is to receive $1,148.00 and Fieldale Boy Scouts $200.00. The New York Office and Zion Lace Mill are to receive $353.00 and $677.00, respectively, for employee benefits. The Girls’ Club here is to receive $400.00. The profit for the Spray group will be distributed among the Central, North Spray, Draper, Leaksville, and Henry Street Y. M. C. A.’s and the Girls’ Club. ^ Prices at the Employees’ Store are based on the wholesale price plus a 10% mark-up. Operating expenses for the store are paid out of the profits and the re mainder is used for employee benefits. The Employees’ Store is located in Spray with displays at Fieldale, New York and Zion. Employees at those locations order through their Personnel Departments. J. Frank Wilson Heads ’47 Red Cross Campaign J. Frank Wilson, retired production manager of Fieldcrest Mills, will direct the 1947 fund-raising campaign of the American Red Cross which will get under way March 3. Moody Davis has been appointed chairman of the drive for the Leaksville area and other ap pointments are expected at an early date. Work in securing new members for the Red Cross will be carried on in the same manner as in other years. The local quota has not been announced as. yet but will be in line with the $60,000,- 000 needed in the national drive for car rying on Red Cross activities on a county, national and world-wide basis.
