Wage Increase Is
Effective Today;
New Minimum 87^^
Nine Per Cent Raise Applies

Fieldcrest Mills and the Textile Work
ers Union of America jointly announced
agreement on a 9% increase in wages
effective Monday, November 10, at the
conclusion of a conference Thursday,
November 6, between company officials
and the union negotiating committee.
The increase applies to all hourly paid
and piece-rate workers with a few ex
ceptions. The minimum rate will be 87c
per hour according to the announce
ment.
The increase will be effective in the
following mills: Karastan and Bed
spread Mills, Leaksville; Blanket and
Sheeting Mills, Draper; Finishing Mill,
Bleachery and Central Warehouse, Ray
on, Woolen, and Embroidered Bed
spread Mills, Spray.

Family Night To Be
Observed At Cafeteria
Each Thursday Evening
Favors For The Kids, High
Chairs, And Special Plate
Lunches Offered In New
Feature Of Service
“Family Night,” with favors for the
kids, high chairs for the little ones, and
special plate lunches for children under
10 years of age, will be inaugurated at
the Y. M. C. A. Fieldcrest Cafeteria No
vember 13 and will be a regular Thurs
day night feature.
Plans for “Family Night” at the cafe
teria were announced in a letter to em
ployees in the Spray area from J. K.
McConnell, general secretary of the

WINNER:—Rockingham Service Company, Leaksville, received first prize in the
window display contest using Fieldcrest products in the competition during Com
munity Week. The display, offering a bridal motif, contained Fieldcrest sheets, bed
spreads, towels, etc. The prize awarded was a Thermostatic Blanket.
Jacqueline Halsey
Appears As Model In
Current Mademoiselle
Jacqueline Halsey, a John Powers
model and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.
G. Halsey, of the Highlands, appears in
the November issue of Mademoiselle.
Jacqueline was the model in a full-page
ad in Life for October 27 and has re
cently appeared in Charm, Vogue,
Glamour and other publications.
Fifi, another daughter of the Halseys,
modeled for the Powers agency last
year and has just returned to New York
after spending a month here with her
parents. Their father is manager of the
Rayon and Woolen Mills. Jacqueline
spent two weeks at her home here dur
ing the summer.
Radio Quiz
Employees who wish to appear on the
Fieldcrest radio program as a quiz con
testant are requested to telephone No.
709 or write a note to Otis Marlowe,
Mill Whistle office, Spray.
The program is heard each Sunday
over Station WLOE, Leaksville, from 3
until 3:30 p. m. The quiz is a regular
feature of the broadcasts. The questions
are generally concerned with facts about
the mills or the home communities.
Silver dollars are awarded for the cor
rect answers.
Although the contestants are not re
quired to be employees of Fieldcrest
Mills, it is hoped that persons from
Fieldcrest will participate widely in this
feature of the program. An invitation is
given to all.
