Two Complete 40 Years’ Service On Same Day

Two men who completed 40 years of
continuous service on March 1 were
honored in brief ceremonies together
with another employee completing 25
years of service on the same date. The
long-service men were presented with
boxes of candy and letters of apprecia
tion from the management.

Mr. Sykes and Mr. Hankins were
honored as “Mr. Fieldcrest’’ on recent
Fieldcrest radio programs.
S. T. A. Group To Hold
Meeting in Greensboro
Fieldcrest men will play prominent
parts in the meeting of the Northern
North Carolina-Virginia division of
the Southern Textile Association at
Cone Memorial Y. M. C. A., Greiens-
boro, Saturday, April 14, at 10 a. m.
W. H. Richardson, of our Standards
Dept, and C. J. Squires, Bedspread
Weaving foreman, will take part on
the program. W. H. Neal, senior vice-
president of Wachovia Bank and
Trust Co., Winston-Salem, will be the
principal speaker.
G. R. Ward, Highland Cotton Mills,
High Point, will preside. Howard Bar
ton, superintendent of our Rayon Mill,
is secretary. Executive board members
from the Tri-Cities include R. C. Go
ing, superintendent of the Sheeting
Mill and \V- P- Barton, superintendent
of Spray Cotton Mills.
Excellent Council
Programs Are Set
For April And May
The Carolina Cooperative Council
has schedule! outstanding programs
for April and May. Strickland Gillilan,
noted humorist, commentator and former
columnist on the Washington Post, will
be the speaker at the Senior Council
meeting April 19. The combined Glee
Clubs of Draper and Leaksville High
Schools will sing at the meeting to be
held in the high school auditorium at
Leaksville at 7:30 o’clock.
At their meeting on May 17, the
Senior Council will hear an address by
Robert B. House, chancellor of the Uni
versity of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
New officers will be elected at the May
meeting following which the Council

Red Cross Campaign
Proves Successful
Contributions Total $6,864;
Medbery and Ripple Thank
Volunteer Workers, Citizens
For Generous Response
The Tri-Cities exceeded their quota
but did not quite reach the increased
goal in the 1951 Red' Cross fund cam
paign just concluded. The original
quota as set by the national organiza
tion was $5,844. However, the board of
directors of the local chapter agreed
to increase the goal to $7,000 to take
care of the increasing needs brought
about by the expanding military forces
and civil defense.
In their final report, E. W. Medbery
and J. H. Ripple, co-chairmen of the
drive, announced a total of $6,864 has
been contributed. It was considered
likely that the goal would still be passed
since a number of civic clubs and other
organizations which usually contribute
have not been heard from as yet.
Draper was out front in the campaign
with enthusiastic support'of the cause.
Draper people contributed a total of
$1,974.63 against the town’s goal of
$1,575.00.
The combined report for Leaksville-
Spray showed $4,889.37 collected against
the goal of $5,425.00. Virtually all of
the donations that may yet be expected
to come in are from the Leaksville-
Spray area and these could help bring

Polk Will Judge
Essays In Contest
The contest committee of the Fine
Arts Festival Association has announc
ed that William T. Polk, editor, of the
Greensboro Daily News will serve as'
judge of the essay.s submitted in the
contest this year.
The committee also announced that a
contest official will be at the Central
Y. M. C. A. in Spray from 2 p. m. to
9 p. m. Friday, April 13, and from 9
a. m. to 12 noon Saturday, April 14, to
receive entries. Contestants', especially
those entering pictures, are urged to
take their entries directly to the Y, if
at all possible. Howe'ver, entries will be
received at the various libraries
throughout the county and at the Ruffin
School or teacherage in Ruffin.
