Leaksville-Spray Youngsters Enjoy Exchange Club’s “Sunshine Special’’ A total of 157 boys and girls' took part in the “Sunshine Special” event sponsored by the Leaksville-Spray Exchange Club Saturday, August 25. The youngsters from all parts of Leaksville and Spray were picked up in cars driven by mem bers of the Exchange Club and carried to Camp Cherokee near Wentworth for a day’s outing. Statistics showed the group consumed 740 hot dogs, 504 large bottled drinks, “a bushel of potato salad,” with plenty of ice cream for dessert. With Exchangites in charge, the boys participated volleyball, softball, badminton, sack races, golf driving, horse shoes, and marble tournaments. The girls’ games were led by Exchangettes, assisted by Miss Isabelle Buckley, director of the Girls’ Club. Ronnie Reynolds' was awarded the boys’ prize for the best sportsmanship displayed during the day. Girls’ prize was awarded to Sanda DeHart. Wade Martin and Bringl® McBride were co-chairmen of the event. FINISHING MILL NEWS (By Rebecca Barnard) Virginia Ashworth and daughter, Carol, have returned from their vaca tion, spent at Norfolk, Va., with rela tives. We’re glad to see Lillian Joyce back at work after being out sick. Welcome to Ted Turner, who replaced Norwood Cheek in the Supply Room. Our heartfelt sympathy to Miss Annie Wilson and Mrs. Bessie Carter in the recent loss of their father. Pfc. Elmo Hundley, of Fort Belvoir, Va., son of Rivers Hundley, (Blanket- Folding) visited in the mill last week. He is home on a 6-day special leave. Pfc. Hundley was wounded in Korea and is now on his first assignment after being hospitalized at Battle Creek, Mich, and Fort Bragg. We are glad to have Katie Archibald back at work after being out sick. I’ve had plenty.” Some Karastan folks are still enjoying vacations. Lillian Joines and Aubiere Leffew spent theirs at home. Joe White drove to Philadelphia and New York and saw a couple of baseball games. Reba and Roger Myers and daughter spent the week at Virginia Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Robert V. Rodgers and family drove to Lake City, S. C., where they visited relatives. Geneva and Roy Reynolds have re turned from a trip to Washington, D. C., New York City and Atlantic City, N. J. While in Atlantic City they attended the “Miss America” beauty pageant. KARASTAN NEWS (By Mary Stephens) Congratulations!!! Roy Whitten was the proud winner of the ’51 Chevrolet which was given away by the Lion’s Club at the Tri-City Agricultural Fair. He really had his rabbit’s foot with him when he bought that ticket. Roy is foreman in the Burling Department. Ed Cobb and family have moved into their lovely new home in Roulhac Knolls. Ed is really a proud and happy home owner, and he says, “It’s worth every minute of work and worry and Honored On Birthday Mrs. John B. Buckner (at right in pic ture) was honored recently on a WLOE radio program on her 69th birth day. She is the mother of Elvin Buckner, center, a weaver at the Karas tan Rug Mill. At left is Mrs. Elvin Buck ner who wrote the letter to the radio station nominating her mother-in-law. The two Mrs. Buckners received corsages from Bateman’s Flowers. Shields Grandchild Beth O’Neill, six months old when picture was made, is the daughter ol Mr. and Mrs. Darrell O’Neill (mother is the former Miss Maryland Shields)- Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs- C. T. Shields of Spray. Mr. Shields retired two years ago with 41 years service with ths Company, was gate watchman at the Woolen Mill the last years of his employ' ment. Mrs. Shields worked 15 years in the Weave Room at the Woolen MiU- The O’Neills’ home is in Linden, N. J- Beth O’Neill PROUD GRANDFATHER John Ri de Richemond, Karastan Ne'W^ York Sales Office, became a grand' father September 7. The new baby Deborah Ann Clark, daughter of Mr* and Mrs. Addison C. Clark. Mr. de Richemond has been with Karastan years.
