Volunteers May Keep
National Guard Rank
Under a new Army policy, members
of the National Guard whose selective
service induction is imminent may ap
ply for active duty and go into military
service with their National Guard rank.
The period of voluntary service is the
same as for the draft—24 months. An
nouncement of the new ruling was made
locally by Capt. B. F. Dunton, com
manding officer of Heavy Mortar Com
pany, 120th Infantry.
The new policy means that a man of
draft age can enlist in the National
Guard and if he at a later date receives
his draft call, can enter the regular
Army with the same rank he holds in
the National Guard at the time of re
ceiving his notice.
Capt. Dunton said the local Guard unit
still has vacancies for qualified men.
Further information may be obtained
by visiting the armory any Monday
night from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
