Weddle Draper Cost “It is not company policy to have people go home on Friday night after a week’s work anything like as tired as they come in on Monday morning after the rigors of our American week-ends,” says L. R. Boulware, vice president in charge of Employee Relations at General Electric. G. C. Swinney, assistant foreman of the Jack Spinning Dept, at the Blanket Mill, received the thrill of a lifetime January 31, when he was able to win a game against Tommy Wiswell of Brook lyn, New York, world’s champion free style checker player. Several other local men played the champion to tie games. Fast-playing Charlie Roberts, watchman at the Finishing Mill, played Mr. Wis well three games with a draw game or. his third try. Ties were also scored by W. D. Gatewood, W. A. Berry, G. L. Hall, R. L. Shelton, A. D. Rodgers, and Ross Holderby. Several out-of-town checker enthusi' acts were among the 61 persons attend ing the tournament held at Centra Y.M.C.A. in Spray as a feature of N®' tional Y.M.C.A. Week. Mr. Swinney, ® personal friend of the checker champ' ion, presided and presented Paul son, secretary of Central Y.M.C.A., vvn discussed the possibility of organizing a local chess and checker club. Champion Wiswell is now on a toU of the United States and appeared at th Fieldale Y.M.C.A., Saturday evenins- February 7.
