Whales On Beach I Michael Fredericks of Karastan De signing snapped this picture while on vacation at Long Beach, N. C. It shows one of the four large whales washed upon the beach while he was there. The whales were about 18 to 20 leet long and weighed about two tons a piece. They rolled up into the surf about 9 a. m., and the Coast Guard tried to tow them out to sea but in a short while they were back in the surf. After several attempts to get them off the beach and back into the ocean, the whales were rolled up on the beach and buried in the sand. Mr. Freder icks said that this had never happened there before and that it created a lot of excitement on the beach. * Karastan News By MARY STEPHENS James W.
