Promenade Club To Open Season The Promenade club of Consolidated Central Y.M.C.A. starts a new season Saturday September 26. A square dance for the public will be held at the ‘“Y” at 7:30 p- m. on that date. The Foot and Fiddle club of Burlington which won first prize at last year’s State Fair will present a demonstration. Sherman Almond, president of the Promenade club, invites everyone in terested in square dancing to attend either as participants or spectators. There is no charge for admission and light refreshments will be served. Other new officers of the club are Roy Martin, vice president; Margaret Murphy, secretary; and Pauline Martin, treasurer. Jimniy Black is chairman of the program committee and Billie Black is chairman for refreshments. -★ Birthday Party Happy birthday was extended to Min nie Grogan, September 1 at a surprise party at the home of Fern Dew with Lucille Alley as co-hostess. Guests pres ent were Margaret Foddrell, Elva Brame, Mary Craig, Shine Brame and relatives of the honoree. Preparing Exhibits For 25-Year Picnic Many hours of work went into the preparation of the exhibits shown at the 25-Year Club picnic Saturday. The displays contained old photographs, newspapers, early fabrics made in the mills and other reminders of old days in the mills and community. Hollis Edens, ^ 0 IM ^I^AY, SEPTEMBER Fieldale Shut-In Enjoys Television Fieldale’s number one TV fan very easily could be Mrs. Ruby Dudley, who has been confined to a wheel chair be cause of arthritis for the past six years. A group of friends in the mills and in town recently presented her with a television set. She watches TV many hours of the day and she has several favorite programs which she says she “just can’t miss”. Mrs. Dudlet is a former employee of Towel Sewing where she worked as a labeler for around 20 years. She was born in Wythe County, Va. and worked for a short while in Fries, Va., during her youth. She attended National Busi ness College in Roanoke and worked in an office in Bluefield, W. Va. before joining Fieldcrest Mills. She and a sister. Miss Mary Wilkin son, live together in their home on Tenth street in Fieldale. Miss Wilkinson is an inspector in the Towel Mill Sewing Room and is a long-service employee of the Company. president of Duke University, at which the address was given by Luther H.
