It is ex- tnat operations will continue ^Continued on page eight) • • Collection have been awarded design honors in California. “Night Flowers,” left, Rugs Chosen For Exhibit In Museums Karastan’s “Oasis” and “Night Flowers” designs of the Desert Collection of area rugs have been selected for display in two American museums and will be shown across the nation in a traveling exhibit. The Company was notified that the two rugs have been accepted in “Cali fornia Designed”, an exhibition of the best of new California home furnish ings designs publicizing California’s style of living on a national scale. The rugs will be used by the M. H. De Young Memorial Museum in a ioint exhibition opening simultaneous ly in Southern California at the Munici pal Art Center in Long Beach and at the M. H. De Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco in Northern California. The openings of the exhibitions are set for July 10 to coincide with the summer furniture and accessories markets on the west coast. National circulation by the American Federation of Arts will follow, causing the exhibit to become a traveling show. Intensive state-wide publicity will cover 550 newspapers, 100 trade publications, 3600 retailers and at least 1,000 design ers. The local campaign will be followed by nationwide publicity, including an illustrated catalog which will be widely distributed. “Oasis” and “Night Flowers” were designed in the San Francisco studios of Everett Brown Associates, one of America’s foremost design and color authorities whom Fieldcrest uses as consultants for both rug and domestics designing. In letters to President Harold W. Whitcomb and Walter B. Guinan, Vice President in charge of Karastan Sales, Everett Brown stated: “To have receiv ed an award or an acceptance in this highly competitive design plan is indeed a great compliment and because of its intelligent planning will be one which will benefit Karastan and all concern ed with the utmost in promotion, publi- (Continued on page eight) New Contract Became Effective On June 1 A new contract between Fieldcrest Mills Inc., and the Textile Workers Union of America (CIO) covering em ployees in the North Carolina mills, became effective June 1 and will expire June 10, 1956. Agreement on the final wording came after four weeks of negotiations. The contract is being printed in booklet form and will be distributed to employees within the next two or three weeks.
