Purcell, Jackson Named Managers Appointment of D. A. Purcell as Manager of the Towel Mill, Fieldale, a-, and of Arthur L. Jackson as man ager of the Synthetic Fabrics Mill was announced effective September 1 by W. Medbery, vice president in charge manufacturing. Mr. Purcell who was superintendent the Blanket Mill for several years ®fore his promotion to assistant man ager of the Towel Mill a few weeks ago, I^Places J. D. Moore who is resigning - *^tober 1 to join another company. A capacity audience is expected in the Leaksville-Spray junior high school auditorium Thursday evening, Septem ber 15, when Gov. Luther H. Hodges addresses the Carolina Cooperative Council at its 35th anniversary program. Governor Hodges will arrive during the afternoon and will attend a dinner to '^°mpa: accept a position with another ny. GOV. LUTHER H. HODGES with Company officials and Council officers at Meadow Greens Country club at 6 p. m. The mayors of Leaks ville, Spray and Draper have been ex tended invitations to the dinner. At the meeting in the auditorium which begins at 7:30 p. m., seats will be for the Council’s charter members. John P. Powell, outgoing president, will open the meeting and will install Cecil J. Squires, president, and the other officers for the 1955-56 Council (Continued on page eight) 25-YEAR CLUB As the Mill Whistle went to press Friday, all was in readiness for the 25- Year Club picnic in Morehead Stadium Saturday afternoon, September 10. A total of 858 employees with 25 or more years of continuous service were eligible to attend. See pages four and five for the names of these long-serive employees. Weaver Attains 50-Year Record A. D. Weaver, of the Synthetic Fabrics Mill, was honored by the man agement at a luncheon at Meadow Green’s Country Club, Thursday, Sep tember 8, upon his completion of 50 yeai'S of continuous service. He was presented his diamond-and- gold service pin, a letter expressing the Company’s appreciation for his many years of faithful service, and other gifts and remembrances. During the after noon Mr. Weaver and his wife were escorted on a tour of the various Field crest plants and offices in the Tri- Cities and at Fieldale, Va. Arthur L. Jackson, manager of the Synthetic Fabrics Mill, presided. The 50-year-pin was presented by E. W. Medbery, vice president in charge of manufacturing. A message was read from President Harold W. Whitcomb who was out of town and unable to at tend the luncheon. Brief talks were made by Messrs. Medbery, Howard Barton, of Engineering Dept., a long time friend of Mr. Weaver; J. W.
