Greater operating efficiency, improved materials handling and bet ter use of space and buildings are ex pected to result from the moves already made and those to be made in the im mediate future. During the vacation shutdown, the entire Finishing, Carving and Carpet Inspection departments were moved to the first floor and consolidated ad jacent to the Shipping department. The former Finishing space will be used for additional storage of dyed yarns and for winding operations. In the mill’s continuing program to streamline its operations, the next mov es will involve the Setting and Burl ing departments. Rearrangement of these departments and other improve ments are planned for the next several months. New Loading: Platform To provide more efficient handling and speedier service to customers, all broadloom storage has been consoli dated in the new K-1 warehouse. Build ing alterations were made, including the construction of a new loading plat form to accomodate three additional trucks. The extra facilities permit the load ing of five trucks at a time rather than two as heretofore. The loading of rail way cars was not affected. In connection with the shipping ar rangements, the street inside the fence at the mill entrance was widened, re lieving congestion and greatly facili tating the movement of trucks. Approaches to the Karastan Mill along Harris and Henry streets are be ing improved with Fieldcrest and the Town of Leaksville participating in the cost. The intersection opposite the ttiiU gate has been widened considerably and work is under way on widening a section of Harris street between Henry and Patrick streets which is ad jacent to the mill parking lot.
