Carolina Council To Open 36th Year Oct. 18 Fieldcrest Men Give
Textile Show Report

gallus” economy to the highly diversi
fied production center it is today.
The Council membership survey has
not yet been completed but the results
to date show a sizable increase in mem
bership over that of last year. The
sign-up is expected to be completed
within another week.
Only four meetings of the Council
are scheduled for the 1956-57 year,
following a revision in the constitution
voted by the members last October.
The meeting dates, in addition to that
of the upcoming program, will be De
cember 15, January 24, 1957 and April
25, 1957.
Officers and committee chairmen for
the coming year are: president, J. M.
Norman, Jr.; vice president, R. A. Har
ris; secretary, Otis Marlowe. Committee
chairmen are: program, R. L. Wilkes;
attendance, Melvin Moore; arrange
ments, Harold Squires; and constitu-

The increasing importance of elec
tronic devices to more closely control
the operation of machines and processes
was noticeable among the exhibits at
the 19th Southern Textile Exposition
in Textile Hall at Greenville, S. C.
October 1-5.
Fieldcrest men who attended also
reported an emphasis on automatic
cleaning equipment for cleaning spin
ning frames, looms etc. and much
interest in automatic filling handling
systems and a new spinning process.
Virtually every major U. S. tex
tile machinery manufacturer had ex
hibits in the show and Textile Hall be
came a giant pilot plant with many of
the machines and devices in actual
operation under mill-simulated condi
tions.
Exhibitors and visitors represented
nearly every geographical area of the
United States with participants from
Canada, England, West Germany,
Switzerland and other European coun
tries giving the Greenville exposition
something of a cosmopolitan flavor.
The show is the only one of its kind
to be held over so long a period and
involves not only machinery and equip-

Mills To Cooperate In
Fire Prevention Week
Fieldcrest Mills is cooperating in the
observance of Fire Prevention Week
Week October 7-13 which is being pro
moted by the Tri-City Chamber of Com
merce in conjunction with the local fire
departments.
At the mills during this week special
efforts will be made to seek out any fire
hazards and correct them. Supervisors
and employees .are requested to take a
personal interest in the observance of
Fire Prevention Week which is being
observed nationally.
The following program has been sug
gested for the mills and particular at
tention will be given during this week
to the items which are outlined:
