Fieldale Pool
Most popular place at Fieldale these
days is the swimming pool operated by
the Fieldale Community Center. Per
sons of all ages throng to the .pool
to swim, to sun on a nearby grassy
plot or just to watch the fun.
Swimming classes are underway now
tor beginners and intermediates and
advanced swimming instruction will be
offered at the close of the present
courses. Instructors are Howard
Haynes and Phil Crockett.
The beautiful $40,000 swimming pool
Was completed in June, 1956. It was
built through the cooperative efforts
of the Community Center, Rotary and
J'ieldale Service club and other com-
ttiunity groups.

Go To World Jamboree
William Brown, 16-year-old son of
and Mrs. E. L. Brown of Leaksville,

boree of the Boy Scouts of America.
More than 53,000 Boy Scouts, Explor
ers, and leaders from all parts of the
^^ation and some from other lands, are
'tamping together at the jamboree at
Valley Forge in Pennsylvania. The jam
boree opened July 12 and will close
next Thursday night, July 18.
The following day, William will
^f'ard a ship in New York to go to the
'Jubilee Jamboree celebration in Sutton
Park, England. At the latter event,
Scouts from 63 nations will gather to
celebrate the golden anniversary of
scouting and the 100th birthday of Lord
Baden-Powell, founder of Scouting.
William is an Explorer connected
With Boy Scout Troop 15, sponsored
by the First Baptist Church of Leaks-
■ville. He. is an Eagle Scout with the
Silver Palm and a recipient of the God
and Country Award. He is a rising
junior at Randolph-Macon Military
Academy, Front Royal, Va. His father
is comptroller at Fieldcrest Mills.

Six employees of the Blanket Mill
have completed a series of advance-
;uent training courses dealing with var
ious management subjects. Members of
the group attended the classes on their
own time. One-hour sessions were held
twice a week at intervals over a nine-
months period.
J. P. Foster, assistant superintendent
'of the Blanket Mill, coordinated the
training. The Fieldcrest Training De
partment assisted in preparing the
spinning department; Ernest Walker,
Melvin Pruitt, Wilford Overby, all
of the weave room; and Paul Jones,
wool carding department.

A dinner for those completing the
training was given at Meadow Greens
Country Club and was attended by
participants in the courses and by J.
H. Ripple, mill manager, H. T. Bundy,
assistant mill manager, C. A. Davis,
superintendent, William McGehee and
J. "E. Gardner of the Training Depart
ment.
