MURRAY BROTHERS COMPLETE 40 YEARS’ SERVICE

Mutual Aid Benefits To Increase

Increased benefits under the United
Mutual Aid Association plan will be
come effective next Thursday, August
1- The Association provides hospitali
zation and surgical insurance for em
ployees in the Company’s North Caro
lina mills and for dependents of the
inembers.
The improved benefits were recom-
Riended by the Mutual Aid Board of
Directors and all of the imit boards,
and the proposed changes were adopted
by the membership. A summary of the
revisions follows;
1. The hospital room rate is increas
ed from $8.00 to $10.00 per
day.
2. Hospital extras are increased
from $8.00 to $10.00 per day. (The
maximum for extras is increased
from $80.00 to $100.00).
3. The maximum days of hospital
coverage are increased from 30
days to 70 days for any one case.
3. Maximum surgical benefits are
increased from $100.00 to $150.00.
(The average increase for all sur
gery is 33%).
5. Maternity benefits are increased
from $80.00 to $100.00.
An entirely new feature added to the
plan provides in-hospital medical care.
This means that in cases not requiring
surgery, the attending physician will
be paid $3.00 per day for hospital
visits. The limit is $100.00 for any one
case.
No increase in dues will be made un
til January 1, 1958, when the dues will
be increased from 75c a week to $1.00
a week, to pay for the more liberal
benefits.

Elimination Of Unsafe
Acts And Conditions
To Be Emphasized
August has been designated as “Ac
cident Prevention Month” by the North
Carolina Industrial Commission. More
industrial injuries occur in August
than in any other month. The com
mission is sponsoring the special ob
servance in an attempt to reduce in
juries and this high accident rate.
Industry throughout the State is be
ing called on to make every possible
effort to prevent on-the-job injuries
during August. Singled out for special
attention are unsafe work habits of em
ployees and unsafe conditions which
if uncorrected might cause an accident.
Fieldcrest is cooperating in the special
drive and each mill will be trying for
a perfect safety record during August.
Posters on the plant bulletin boards
will remind employees of the goal.
Plant safety committees will give at
tention to boxes, bins, conveyors, steps,
floors, doors, and windows to locate
any conditions needing correction.
Supervisors will put forth extra ef-

Fex, Petrich Added
To Rug Sales Staff
Robert Fex and Max Petrich have
been appointed to the Karastan sales
staff by W. B. Guinan, vice-president
in charge of Karastan sales, in a re
alignment of territories.
Mr. Fex whose territory will include
Long Island and Brooklyn has been
with C. H. Masland & Sons for the past
four years, most recently as northeast
ern contract manager. I^ior to joining
Masland, he was with the Alexander
Smith Carpet Company. A graduate of
St. Johns University, Mr. Fex is mar
ried, has three children.
Mr. Petrich, also the father of three,
will have his headquarters in San Fran
cisco and cover several western states
for Karastan. He was for more than
10 years a salesman for the Bigelow-
Sanford Carpet Company.
