Fieldcrest Community Fund Drive Under Way
The Tri-City Community Fund cam
paign at Fieldcrest was still in progress
as The Mill Whistle went to press Fri-
Solicitations began Monday, Febru
ary 10 and are expected to be completed
®arly this week. Each employee was to
contacted and asked to pledge a do-
*iation of approximately one day’s pay.
Campaign officials said the results at
fieldcrest would be announced as soon
as known, through The Leaksville News
and The Mill Whistle. A community-
''^ide report meeting is scheduled for
Thursday night of this week.
Robert A. Harris, vice president in
pharge of manufacturing, who is head-
*r>g the campaign at Fieldcrest, urged
that employees give the equivalent of
One day’s pay as their fair share in the
Community Fund campaign. The contri-
l^ution may be a pledge to be paid in
installments by payroll deductions.
The first deductions will be made
from the paycheck for the week ending
^larch 9. Deductions may be spread over
a 12-week period. First deductions
aniong salaried employees will be from
^larch paychecks. Deductions will be
niade for three months.
Mr. Harris joined the Rev. Harry D.
Wood, general chairman of the cam
paign, in appealing for generous support
of the Community Fund. Failure to reach
the community-wide goal of $38,918.74
would mean that needy persons and
families will suffer as needed health,
welfare and recreational services would
be absent or curtailed.
Agencies participating in the Com
munity Fund are Red Cross, Boy and
Girl Scouts, Boys’ Club, Salvation Army,
Rescue Squad, Y.M.C.A.s and Retarded
Children.

the largest contribution per employee.
In addition, a suitable unit in the new

mill’s contributions will buy—would be
named in honor of the employees of the
mill making the largest contribution per
employee.

Results at the Blanket and Karastan
mills were so close that the contest was
considered a tie and plaques were
awarded both mills.
Ninety-four per cent of the employees
at the Blanket Mill pledged a total of

$48.38 per employee. One hundred per
