C., Monday, March 31, 1958 NUMBER 19 liiimiiifi 'm- S ■'j??v\ —4ir^- ^ew General Offices building of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., on Stadium Drive, Spray, was opened to employees and the general public, ‘Open House’ At New General Offices Fieldcrest Mills’ new General Offices building, located on Stadium Drive, Spray, was officially opened to the public on Saturday, March 29. “Open House” for the building which houses the company’s General Management, Accounting, Comptroller’s, Cost, Data Processing, En gineering, Industrial Relations, Payroll, Service and Standards Depart ments was held from 9 a. m. to 12 o’clock noon and from 1 p. m. to 4 p. m. Employees and the general public were given guided tours through the entire building which has just been occupied. The new building which releases 30,- able for the building’s approximately 000 square feet of manufacturing space formerly occupied by offices is of mod ern and fireproof construction. Exterior ^alls, combining brick with glass and ftietal panels, provide open and well- lighted office facilities in beautiful 'vooded surroundings. The new structure is approximately equidistant from the company’s mill areas in Leaksville, Spray, and Draper. The new office building is 178 feet Wide and 218 feet deep containing 42,- 50o square feet. The building is situated on a knoll with landscaped lawns sloping downward to Stadium Drive. Curving driveways lead to the front entrance and Continue around the building to the 125 occupants and for visitors, with spe cial provision for visitors to the Em ployment Office and the Medical De partment. The building is mostly one-story with a partial second story containing the ex ecutive offices and a guest apartment which are reached through stairways from the main lobby and from a separate outside entrance. The guest apartment has four bedrooms and facilities for ser ving breakfast to accommodate overnight visitors from the company’s New York sales divisions and other out-of-town guests. Contracts for the building were let March 25, 1957, and construction was sufficiently completed to enable the first departments to move into the building on February 15, 1958. Other departments moved during the next two weeks and the new building was completely occu pied on March 1. Total contracts for the building were slightly in excess of $800,000. Robert and Company Associates of Atlanta, Ga., were the architects and supervising en gineers. Contracts were awarded low bidders as follows general contractor, King-Hunter, Inc., Greensboro; electri cal, Adams Electric Co., Reidsville; and plumbing, Robb Plumbing and Heating Co., High Point. Harold W. Whitcomb, president of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., said the new build ing makes available approximately 30,- 000 square feet of space which is badly needed for manufacturing purposes. It releases the Nantucket building for use by the Automatic Blanket Mill and re leases additional space where it is need ed in the Finishing Mill by moving some of the office personnel from that build ing into the former General Office.
