Mr. Daniel, who represented his com
pany in the congressional hearings on
the textile imports problem, is expected
to discuss low-wage foreign compeMtion
and the effect of cheap imports on
American textile mills.
He is a native of Chatham, Virginia,
and has been associated with Dan River
since 1939. He started as an hourly
employee in the company’s Riverside
Division. Following his discharge from
the Navy during World War II, he be
came associated with Dan River s em-

Community Fund Drive
To Be Concluded At
Mills This Week
Fieldcresters this week are en
gaged in a campaign to raise their
share of the $36,790.74 budget of
the Tri-City Community Fund.
Solicitations in the mills began
last Wednesday and are expected
to be concluded by next Friday.
The community-wide goal of $36,-
790.74 represents the minimum amount
needed for the continued operation of
eight worthy health, welfare, and rec
reational agencies serving local people.
The budget covers operation of the
agencies for the remaining two months
of 1958 and the full 12 months of 1959.
C. J. Frank, director of industrial
relations, is chairman of the campaign
at Fieldcrest. As in the past, the super
intendents are in charge of the drive
at their respective mills. A canvass is
being made in each department, offer
ing every employee an opportunity to
share in the campaign.

Fieldcrest and elsewhere is one day’s
