Employees who have had changes in
the number of exemptions claimed for
federal income tax deductions should
notify the Pajrroll Department right
away. The change in status should be
reported on form W-4, which may be
obtained from the foreman, timekeep
er, or the Industrial Relations Dept.
All changes received by the Payroll
Department by January 31 will be put
into effect. There will then be no
further exemption changes on the pay
roll until July 1. However, employees
should continue to notify the Payroll
Department within 10 days of any
change in their dependents, such as di
vorce, separation, births, dependents
earning over $600, etc.
Any overpayment or underpayment
of tax by an employee will always be
adjusted by the U. S. Department of
Revenue when the employee files his
income tax for the year.
President Whitcomb and other
executives of the Company were
in Chicago last week to attend
the sales meeting of the Kara-
stan division and the Home Fur
nishings Market which opened
Monday and continued through
the week.
The new lines of Karastan and its
newly purchased subsidiary, the Nye-
Wait Company, were introduced at the
Market and were favorably received by
buyers from all over the country.
The rug sales meeting was held in
the Karastan showroom in the Mer
chandise Mart on Saturday preceding
the market opening. Karastan execu
tives and salesmen reviewed the new
lines and discussed plans for the first
half of 1959 at the all-day meeting.
Walter B. Guinan, president of the
Karastan sales division and Hugh P.
Feeley, Karastan vice-president, con
ducted the meeting based on the theme,
“Take the Best and Make It Better.”
Mr. Guinan outlined the industry sit
uation and presented the new lines. Mr.
Feeley discussed sales policies and
marketing plans. Alfred S. Gussin, ad
vertising director, outlined the adver
tising and merchandising programs.
President Whitcomb spoke to the
group at a luncheon in the Merchandise
Mart. S. R. Fifield and R. A. Harris,
Company vice-presidents, attended the
sales meeting and market opening along
with J. M. Norman, F. W. Klein, J. E.
Troy and E. N. Sedell, Karastan mill
executives.

Christmas music, a variety show by
the famed Charlotte Boys Choir, and
treats from Santa Claus combined to
make happy occasions of the Christmas
parties given for the children of Field
crest employees. The parties were held
at Spray and at Fieldale Saturday,
December 13, under sponsorship of the
Carolina Cooperative Council.

High School, F. E. Barron, Council at
