Six Out Of 10 Units Operated
Entire Year Without Having
A Lost Time Accident
The safety record at Fieldcrest Mills
in 1958 was the best in the past five
years. The accident frequency rate at
Fieldcrest was 1.75, a remarkably low
figure compared with the 7.1 frequency
rate for the textile industry in North
Carolina, as reported by the State De
partment of Labor.
Only 14 lost time accidents occurred
at Fieldcrest Mills during 1958, as com
pared with 34 such injuries in the pre
vious year. First aid and sub-major in
juries also showed a reduced rate in
1958.
Six out of the 10 units at Fieldcrest
went the entire year without a lost
time accident. The Safety Department
is making application to the North
Carolina Department of Labor for safe

the Automatic Blanket Mill, Sheeting

Million Man-Hours
For Karastan Mill
Employees of the Karastan Rug Mill
have again completed a million man-
hours of work without a lost time acci
dent. Safety efforts are being intensi
fied with the goal of working the en
tire year of 1959 without a single lost
time injury in the mill.
In former years, the Karastan Mill
established enviable records of safe
work and at one time possessed the best
safety record in the carpet industry.
As the mill seeks to recapture its high
place in safety, employees are being
urged to continue their personal in
terest in eliminating hazards and avoid
ing unsafe acts.
The employees were congratulated on
their safety achievement in a letter dis
tributed to all employees last week
signed by Fred W. Klein, assistant man
ager; Virgil Hall, assistant to Mr. Klein;
