Thursday evening, January 29, at 7:30 o’clock. President Harold W. Whitcomb and other officers will review the Com pany’s operations during the past year and discuss the outlook for the business in 1959. Frederic W. Hoit, president of the Fieldcrest sales divison, and Walter B. Guinan, president of the Karastan sales division, will report on activity in the sales organizations. It will be a joint meeting of the Caro lina Cooperative Council and the Jun ior Carolina Council. A capacity audi ence is expected. Six Out Of 10 Units Operated Entire Year Without Having A Lost Time Accident The safety record at Fieldcrest Mills in 1958 was the best in the past five years. The accident frequency rate at Fieldcrest was 1.75, a remarkably low figure compared with the 7.1 frequency rate for the textile industry in North Carolina, as reported by the State De partment of Labor. Only 14 lost time accidents occurred at Fieldcrest Mills during 1958, as com pared with 34 such injuries in the pre vious year. First aid and sub-major in juries also showed a reduced rate in 1958. Six out of the 10 units at Fieldcrest went the entire year without a lost time accident. The Safety Department is making application to the North Carolina Department of Labor for safe ty awards to these mills. Included are the Automatic Blanket Mill, Sheeting Mill, Finishing Mill, Central Warehouse, Towel Mill and Specials Department. The units meeting the requirements for (Continued on page four) Million Man-Hours For Karastan Mill Employees of the Karastan Rug Mill have again completed a million man- hours of work without a lost time acci dent. Safety efforts are being intensi fied with the goal of working the en tire year of 1959 without a single lost time injury in the mill. In former years, the Karastan Mill established enviable records of safe work and at one time possessed the best safety record in the carpet industry. As the mill seeks to recapture its high place in safety, employees are being urged to continue their personal in terest in eliminating hazards and avoid ing unsafe acts. The employees were congratulated on their safety achievement in a letter dis tributed to all employees last week signed by Fred W.
