The schedule will Date Set For Picnic The 18th annual meeting of the Fieldcrest Mills 25-Year Club will be held in the form of a picnic in More- head Stadium, Saturday, Sept. 17. at 3:30 p. m. As in the past, Harold W. Whitcomb, president of Fieldcrest ]\Iills, Inc., will speak briefly to the long-service em ployees. Letters of invitation and tickets will be sent to all members. Towel Weave Getting New, Flattened Roof The 10th and final section of the roof over the Towel Mill Weave Room is be ing lowered today to make ready for a flat, insulated roof needed in connection with the evaporative cooling system be ing installed in the weave room. The modern roof will aid in improved manufacturing conditions by permitting more uniform control of temperature and humidity. It also will prevent ex cessive condensation, preserving the roof deck and the inside floors. The old saw-tooth type roof tended to “sweat” extensively. The glass windows permitted heat to escape in winter and heat from outside to infiltrate in sum mer, making it difficult to maintain uniform conditions in the weave room. Work will begin right away on the insulation and the new tar and gravel roof.
