Jones W. Norman, industrial rela
tions supervisor at the Bedspread and
Karastan mills and a town commissioner
for the past six years, was the first to
file for mayor of Leaksville.
Vance Reece, waste control engineer
in the Standards Department at the
General Offices and a Draper commis
sioner for the past four years, likewise
was the first to file for mayor of Draper.
At Leaksville, three Fieldcresters are
candidates for the board of commis
sioners, C. B. Rakestraw, retired em
ployee and a present member of the
board; H. E. Williams, safety director,
a former commissioner who is seeking
to return to the board; and George A.
Whitten, a weaver at Karastan.
Five Blanket Mill employees are can
didates for the Draper board of com
missioners, Ernest Funderburk and Paul
Shropshire, incumbents; Clarence
Combs, a former commissioner; George
Frazier and Russell Stewart.
At Spray, Jim Robertson, supervisor
of grounds maintenance at Fieldcrest,
and Jesse Griggs, of the Blanket Mill,
are candidates for the town board.
The above listing includes only those
who had filed when The Mill Whistle
went to press. It is possible that there
are other Fieldcresters who filed. If so,
their candidacies will be reported later.
