The following organization changes
have been announced, effective June 1.
James E. Gardner, assistant director
of personnel research, was appointed
training manager in the Industrial Re
lations Depai*tment.
Robert L. Moore, industrial relations
supervisor. Spray area, was appointed
employment manager for all mills and
staff departments in the Leaksville-
Spray-Draper area.
He succeeds J. O. Thomas, employ
ment manager, who retired under the
Fieldcrest Pension Plan effective June 1.
Mr. Gardner first joined Fieldcrest
Mills in July, 1947, just after receiving
not been off of the payroll since that
time. He worked through the mill as a
student trainee and in 1924 was appoint
ed assistant foreman.
He became assistant superintendent in
June, 1929 and shortly afterwards was
promoted to superintendent of the Towel
Mill. He was promoted to manager of
the Towel Mill in 1940, and continued
in that capacity until he was trans
ferred to Draper in 1949 as manager
of the Blanket and Sheeting Mills.

his master’s degree in psychology from
the University of Maryland. He served
in the army from 1942 until 1946, and
was principally engaged in assigning
army personnel to military occupations.
Prior to his army service, he worked
as a newspaperman and later as a train
ing advisor to a federal government
agency in Washington. A native of
Pennsylvania, he received his under
graduate degree in education and a
master’s degree in English, both from
the University of Michigan.
Mr. Moore is a native of Statesville
and received his B.S. degree in industrial
engineering from North Carolina State
College in 1953.
He served in the army for two years
as a member of the Counterintelligence
Corps and later was associated with a
furniture manufacturing firm in States
ville.
He then enrolled in the School of
Business Administration at the Univer
sity of North Carolina, where he com
plete graduate work in personnel ad
ministration. He joined the Industrial
Relations Department at Fieldcrest in
June, 1958.
