Company Honored On
WPTF Radio Program
PROFILE, a radio program honoring
outstanding business enterprises in
North Carolina, featured Fieldcrest
Mills, Inc., in a special broadcast over
Station WPTF, Raleigh, Sunday evening,
August 6.
During the program, President Harold
W. Whitcomb was interviewed concern
ing the history and accomplishments of
Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. as a whole, with
special reference to the Automatic
Blanket Plant, Smithfield and the Karas-
tan Spinning Division, Greenville.
The interview was conducted by Ed
Rankin, who directs the PROFILE pro
gram for Hospital Care Association of
Durham and Station WPTF.
Barron Is Promoted
To Mill Manager
The promotion of Frank E. Barron to
manager of the Bedspread Mill, effec
tive August 4, has been announced by
Robert A. Harris, vice president—man
ufacturing.
Mr. Barron was assistant mill mana
ger from January 1 until his most recent
promotion, and earlier was mill super
intendent. He has had broad training
and experience in textile operations,
working in supervisory positions and in
engineering and other staff assignments.
A native of South Carolina and a
graduate in textile engineering at Clern-
son College, he was with the Monarch
Mills of the Deering Milliken group at
Union, S. C., for five years. He worked
in standards, costs, and related fields,
as assistant foreman of weaving, night
superintendent, and as assistant to the
plant superintendent.
He left Monarch and came with Field
crest as textile engineer in February,
1951. He resigned in July of 1953 to be
come plant superintendent of Cheraw
Cotton Mills, Cheraw, S. C. He continued
in that capacity until he returned to
Fieldcrest in May, 1957, as assistant sup
erintendent of the Bedspread Mill. He
was promoted to superintendent in Oc
tober, 1957, and to assistant mill man
ager January 1, 1961.
