Unless you work in a spinning depart
ment, you may wonder what Amie Fos-
key is doing in the picture at left. He’s
using a Strobotac to check spindle
speeds at the Karastan Spinning Divis
ion in Greenville.
The Strobotac has a flashing light
which, when synchronized with the
spindle speed, makes the bobbin ap
pear to stand still, although it is turn
ing at several thousand revolutions per
minute.
What Edsel Johnson is doing in the
picture at right will seem strange to
most readers since he’s shown at the
only machine of its kind used at Field-
crest Mills.
He’s making an adjustment to the
Artos machine at the Automatic Blank
et Plant in Smithfield. This machine
automatically cuts and marks cord set
wire to prescribed lengths and strips the
ends. The wire then goes to operations
resulting in completed cord sets.
