directors and stockholders of Fieldcrest
Mills, Inc. Many older employees re
member them from the sale of the com
pany houses to employees in 1941. The
sale was handled by a group of which
Mr. Maguire and Mr. Klein were prin
cipals.
Mr. Klein and the late Frederick H.
Wandelt, a vice president of J. P. Ma
guire & Co., Inc., spent approximately
six months in the Tri-Cities and Field-
ale, Va., and personally handled the
sale of the houses to employees. During
this period, Mr. Klein made many
friends among Fieldcrest employees and
local business people.
New Vice President Is
Specialist In Finance
Richmond R. Roberts, who was recent
ly elected a vice president of Fieldcrest
Mills, Inc., has been directly engaged in
accounting and finance for over 25
years, 20 years with the General Electric
Company in various parts of the coimtry
and for the past five years as treasurer
of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc.
A native of Wise, Va., he graduated
from Emory and Henry College, Emory,
Va., with an A. B. degree in English and
Political Science and with an excellent
record in mathematics. He was a high
school teacher for one year at Appal
achia, Va.
While teaching school, he began his
study of accounting through La Salle
Extension University. He then worked
for 18 months as a punch press operator,
machinist’s helper, and office clerk for
the Osborne Register Company, Cin
cinnati, Ohio.
Starting with General Electric in 1936
in accounting clerical jobs, he was pro
moted to assistant supervisor in Bridge
port, Conn., and subsequently was en
gaged in studies of tax regulations and
the preparation of company-wide in
come tax returns in Schenectady, N. Y.
He was for some time financial assist
ant to the manager of General Electric’s
