C., Monday, April 30, 1962 Million Safe Hours For Bedspread Mill Employees of the Bedspread Mill have completed a million man-hours of work without a lost-time accident. The mill operated the entire year of 1961 without a disabling injury. The last such injury occurred December 23, 1960. The employees are now working toward a new goal of two calendar years and over two million man-hours without lost time due to injury. F. E. Barron, Jr., mill manager, and W. G. Runnings, Jr., superintendent, in a letter to employees, congratulated them on their fine record and expressed appreciation for their cooperation. “. . . Your present accomplishment of 1,000,000 man-hours without a lost-time accident is worthy and proves that you and your fellow workers have taken personal interest in eliminating hazards and avoiding unsafe acts. “We are sure that you enjoy a sense of satisfaction in knowing that your in terest and participation in mill safety have helped prevent suffering and hard ship. This makes our mill a better place in which to work. Let’s continue this fine performance so that we can go on to attain the top safety position for our mill,” the letter stated. Fieldale Community Fund Makes Donation The Fieldale Community Fund has made a contribution of $2,562.65 to the Martinsville - Henry County Cancer Crusade. In an informal ceremony at the Towel Mill April 10, Edgar H. Gordon, fore man of Bleaching and Dyeing Depart ment and chairman of the Fieldale Com munity Fund Committee, presented a check for the above amount to Jack Lester of Martinsville, chairman of the Cancer Fund drive. Also representing the Fieldale Com munity Fund Committee at the presen tation were Mozelle Gourley, of the Sew- mg Department; Vera Warrick, of the Cost Department; and Elmer L. Duna- gan, of the Plant Service Department. On a per capita basis, the sales office placed 20th out of 3,200 companies which took part in the campaign. Campaign manager at Fieldcrest was Steve Smith of the Bedspread Depart ment. Team captains were Misses Ina Cosentino, Loretta Goggins, Velma Min- ter, and Lynn Steinbach and Messrs. John Foster, Pat Hamilton, Willard Har- Martinsville-Henry Coimty chapter of the National Polio Foundation, the Uni ted Fund, and other authorized drives. The Towel Mill conducts only one so licitation each year, at which time an employee may pledge a single contri bution to be paid in small installments through payroll deduction over a period of twelve months. The fund that is raised is administer ed by a committee composed of em ployees representing each department in the Towel Mill. ris, and E. S. Klein, Jr. In ceremonies at the New York Of fice, the Silver Merit Award was pre sented by Donald Varisco of the Great er New York Fund and was accepted, in behalf of Fieldcrest, by Willard Har ris, operations manager. Steve Smith, the campaign manager and the various team captains were present at the presentation ceremony. Mr. Smith, personally, was presented a special award as the Fieldcrest cam paign manager. This award also was presented by Mr. Varisco. Credit Union Grows At Greenville, Smithfield Membership in the Fieldcrest Mills Credit Union at Greenville and Smith field continues to grow. As of last week, a total of 225 employees had joined and 35 loans had been made since mem bership in the Credit Union was open ed at those locations April 1. Employees there are invited to join the Credit Union for regular savings and low-cost loans.
