Hi IE

ated Morehead Memorial Hospital. At right is artist’s sketch of

A Message From Our President
As this message is written on Thursday afternoon, returns from the build
ing fund campaign now under way for Project DTC at Morehead Memorial
Hospital are incomplete. Reports generally are good and it appears now that
most Fieldcrest people are responding very well to this appeal as we have
always done for worthwhile projects in our communities.
The reports from various mills and departments vary widely in the per
centage of employees participating and also in the average amount contributed
per person in proportion to their earnings. I can think of only two reasons
why any citizen of our area would refuse to contribute to the great improve
ment in our hospital facilities, and the medical care available to ourselves and
our families, which this project will accomplish.
The first reason would be a personal financial situation which prohibits
the individual from assuming any more obligations at this time. Since a contri
bution can be paid over a two-year period in small weekly or monthly pay
ments through payroll deductions, there would appear to be only a few who
would be in this category.
The second reason would be a feeling of some kind that the hospital and
this project are not worthy of the individual’s cooperation and support. We
have found that often an attitude of this kind is based on hearsay, rumors or
a genuine misunderstanding. The campaign committee welcomes an opportu
nity to discuss such cases with the individual or group concerned.
, The hospital has made great progress in the last few years and the trustees
and staff intend to continue to improve and serve the community a little better
each year. Thank you for your support and your contributions. If you haven’t
pledged yet in this campaign, please consider the matter carefully as there
is still ample time for everyone to do his share in making Project DTC a real
success.

Early Reports Indicate
Outstanding Results In
Many Departments
As The Mill Whistle went to press
Friday, solicitations in the mills and
offices on behalf of Project DTC, the
building fund campaign for a Diagnos
tic and Treatment Center at Morehead
Memorial Hospital, were continuing.
Indications were that the campaign
is meeting with good response among a
majority of the employees and that
Fieldcresters will pledge at least the
minimum goal of $130,000.
The solicitations will continue until
all active employees have been con
tacted and given an opportunity to con
tribute. Absent employees will be so
licited upon their return to work.
Several Fieldcrest departments al
ready have reported outstanding results:
Employees of the Karastan Dyeing
Department have pledged $1225 as com
pared with $1288 contributed to the
hospital building fund campaign in 1957.
