From July 1, 1962, through October 1962, Tri-City people used 260 pints blood. During the same period only ^3.pints were collected. . Considering the additional blood used November, the collection of blood the Tri-Cities is currently approxi mately 100 pints behind the actual usage local people. F. Dunton, Bloodmobile chairman, pointed out that, since the blood pro gram was started in the Tri-Cities in January, 1961, a total of more than 1,300 pints of blood have been used. “Not one penny has been charged for the blood itself,” Mr. Dunton said. “A few people still think they pay for the blood they receive. That is not true. “The charge is made for the admin istration of the blood. The blood itself is free, but only because our people do nate it free of charge. “We have a good number of volun teers who give freely of their time, and donate blood as often as possible. It is these people who make it possible to keep the blood program in operation. “Many people who have been helped by the blood program have donated blood or have had someone donate in their name. Unfortunately, however, (Continued on page fotir) Company To Sponsor Christmas Parties At Spray, Fieldale, Smithfield and Greenville Fieldcrest Mills will sponsor Christ mas parties for the children of employ ees on Saturday and Sunday, December 15 and 16. The children of employees in the various locations are invited to attend the party in their area. The first party will be at 10 a. m. Saturday in the Fieldale High School auditorium for the children of Towel Mill employees. This will be followed by a party at 2 p. m. Saturday in the new auditorium at Morehead High School for the chil dren of all employees of plants and offices in the Tri-Cities. On Sunday at 2:30 p. m., a party will be held in McGinnis Auditorium at East Carolina College for the children of employees of the Karastan Spinning Division at Greenville. At 7:30 p. m. Sunday, children of em ployees of the Automatic Blanket Plant at Smithfield will attend a party in the Smithfield High School auditorium. For entertainment, the company has (Continued on page four) Christmas Pay Will Be Issued Before Holiday A change in the company’s Christmas Pay policy for all of the hourly paid and piecework employees in the North Caro lina and Virginia mills was announced in notices posted in the mills last week. The previous provision for a day’s pay on Christmas Day has been replaced with a payment to be made before Christmas. Eligibility requirements also have been revised. Under the new plan, all employees on the active payroll December 15, who have continuous service beginning before September 16 of this year, will receive straight time pay for eight hours. This payment will be in addition to their regular pay. It will be paid in a separate check to be distributed with the regular paychecks for the week in which December 15 falls.
