Scholarship Applications Being Accepted crHElMILL WHIS The Fieldcrest Scholarship Commit tee March 1 began accepting applica tions for the scholarships given by the Fieldcrest Foundation to assist em ployees or children of employees of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., in securing a col lege education. Individuals who wish to be consid ered for the scholarships must sub mit an application in writing prior to April 1, 1963, to the Scholarship Com mittee. Awards of the scholarships will be announced by June 1, 1963. An application form may be secured from the Industrial Relations represent atives in the mills; by calling at the Employment Office of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., in the General Offices building in Spray; or by writing to Dr. William McGehee, director of personnel research and training, Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., Spray. Each scholarship has a total cash value of $2,000 over a period of four years at the rate of $500 for each of the four years of college attendance. Scholarships are awarded each year, but it is expected that once a student is awarded a scholarship in his fresh man year the scholarship will be re newed for three successive years. The scholarships are awarded to high school graduates who are entering col lege for the first time. To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship, the recipient must plan to enroll in an academic four-year college or university in a course of studies leading to a rec ognized undergraduate academic degree. Charles Butler Joins E. D. P. Department The appointment of Charles E. Butler as supervisor—E.D.P. planning in the Data Processing Department at the Gen eral Offices has been announced, effec tive February 11. He reports to Robert H. Hair, manager—data processing. Mr. Butler was with the National Dairy Products Corp. for several years prior to joining Fieldcrest. He first was an internal auditor in that firm’s gener al office in New York City, and traveled to the various branches throughout the U. S. and Canada. For the last five years he was a mem ber of the systems and procedures staff, specializing in data processing. He work ed in the several divisions and came here from the Southern Division (South ern Dairies) in Charlotte, where he was in the Data Processing Department. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and majored in accounting. He attended I.B.M. schools in New York, Chicago and Atlanta while with National Dairy Products Corp. He was born in Memphis but grew up in Knoxville. Between his high school years and his enrollment at the Uni- An employee must have been in the employment of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., for at least one year to be considered for the scholarship. The children of an em ployee of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. are eligi ble for consideration for the scholarship award if the employee has been with the Company for one year or more. The scholarships were first awarded in the fall of 1960. To date, a total of eight scholarships have been granted and these recipients are now being as sisted in financing their college educa tion. Performance Award Is Made On Loom No. 42 Weavers and fixers on loom 42 at the Karastan Mill received the award given for above-standard performance during the month of January. Their names are shown below. The award is given each month on looms where performance is above standard in the areas of loom effici ency, seconds, burling costs, housekeep ing and yield, all vital in the achieve ment of high quality and low costs.
